Summary
Responsible for ensuring all cannabis products meet internal quality standards and comply with the California Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) requirements from intake through final release.
This position reports to the Director of Compliance and Quality.
Key Responsibilities
Incoming Review & Release
- Review incoming materials, COAs, and supplier documentation
- Submit materials for required testing
- Approve or quarantine materials for production based on QC review
Lab Testing Coordination
- Coordinate product testing with third-party labs
- Prepare and submit samples with proper Chain of Custody (COC) documentation and METRC manifests
- Maintain ongoing communication with labs and provide updates to the team on testing timelines and upcoming results
- Review COAs for accuracy and approve cannabis materials for further production
Production Quality (CTQs)
- Monitor key quality points (weight, airflow, vape defects, consistency)
- Ensure products meet internal specifications
- Stop production if quality or compliance issues are identified
Finished Goods Release
- Verify labels, packaging, and batch/UID accuracy
- Ensure compliance with regulatory labeling requirements
- Approve or hold finished products for distribution
METRC Compliance (Required)
- Manage package creation, lab submissions, and inventory tracking in METRC
- Ensure accurate UID assignment and batch tracking
- Reconcile discrepancies between physical inventory and METRC
Documentation
- Maintain QC logs, Batch Production Records (BPRs), COAs, and COC forms
- Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and audit-ready
Audits & Compliance
- Perform routine audits (cleaning, PPE, storage, production areas)
- Support inspections from DCC and local regulatory agencies
- Ensure ongoing compliance with internal procedures
Pest Control & SDS
- Maintain pest control logs and monitor facility conditions
- Manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical safety compliance
Formulation & Calculations
- Verify material ratios and batch consistency during production
- Perform basic potency and test result calculations
- Approve input materials based on test results and internal standards
SOPs & Continuous Improvement
- Support development and updates of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Identify gaps and improve quality processes
- Assist with deviation reporting and corrective actions as needed
Requirements
- 1–3 years of experience in cannabis, manufacturing, or quality control
- Experience with lab testing, COAs, and documentation
- METRC experience required
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to identify and escalate quality issues
Skills & Systems
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (data tracking, basic calculations, logs)
- Hands-on experience with METRC (package creation, lab submissions, inventory tracking)
- Experience with Airtable or similar tracking systems
- Familiarity with Confident Cannabis or other lab management platforms
- Strong documentation and recordkeeping skills
- Ability to manage multiple workflows (production, lab coordination, compliance)
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Chemistry & Technical Knowledge
- Ability to read and interpret COAs
- Basic understanding of THC/CBD and cannabis testing results
- Basic math skills for potency calculations and batch consistency
Target range: $25 – $35/hour based on experience
