Wages & Benefits

$­­­­20 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Schedule

This position will work the following schedule: Monday and Tuesday from 8:30a to 12:30p; Wednesday 7:30a to 11:30a; Thursday and Friday 8:30a to 12:30p.

 

Join Hallie Q. Brown as a Food Rescue Driver to help advance our mission of improving quality of life for neighbors in need. This role combines safe and reliable transportation of food resources with hands-on support in our food shelf operations. Responsibilities will include the following:

Driving Services

  • Maintain agency vehicles, including light interior/exterior cleaning and routine safety checks.
  • Safely collect and transport food donations from grocery partners, distribution centers, and community organizations.
  • Build strong, professional relationships with partner organizations to coordinate pickups and resolve issues.
  • Accurately document all food pickups and deliveries.
  • Communicate proactively with supervisors regarding any delivery challenges, delays, or partner concerns.

Food Distribution Support

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the food shelf and storage areas, including waste and recycling management.
  • Organize inventory to ensure accessibility and efficient stock management.
  • Pack food orders and prepare meals based on neighbor requests.
  • Restock shelves, ensuring food quality and monitoring expiration dates.
  • Assist with inventory tracking and notify supervisors of low stock levels.
  • Welcome and support neighbors, providing respectful and helpful assistance in selecting food items.
  • Follow all food safety guidelines and organizational policies.
  • Assist with errands and special projects as assigned.

Who You Are

  • You have a high school diploma or GED and at least three (3) years of driving and customer service experience.
  • You are passionate about nonprofit and human services work, with a commitment to supporting diverse communities.
  • You bring a strong sense of customer service, professionalism, and respect in every interaction.
  • You are organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • You communicate clearly and work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • You are comfortable working with individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • You are adaptable and willing to learn a variety of tasks in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
  • You can work in a range of weather conditions and perform moderately strenuous physical work, including lifting objects up to 50 pounds.
  • You can travel to sites within a 15-mile radius as needed.
  • You understand (or are willing to learn) mandated reporting guidelines and food safety standards.
  • You are familiar with the local community (Rondo area knowledge is a plus).
  • You have a valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet Hallie Q. Brown’s driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
