Job overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Construction Survey Technician to join our team. You will be responsible for providing accurate stakeout services to ensure that all construction activities are executed in accordance with approved engineering plans. This role requires expertise in surveying techniques, precision with layout, and effective communication with project managers, engineers, and field crews. The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge of survey instruments and software, combined with a commitment to quality, safety, and efficiency on the job site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform precise stakeout/layout surveys for building foundations, utilities, grading, roads, bridges, and other site improvements.
- Establish and verify survey control points, benchmarks, and reference lines.
- Translate design drawings and specifications into accurate field markers.
- Provide horizontal and vertical control to guide construction activities.
- Record and maintain detailed survey field notes, digital data, and as-built records.
- Generate CAD drawings, stakeout sketches, and survey reports for project documentation.
- Deliver survey data to engineers, designers, and project managers in a timely manner.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, superintendents, and construction crews to ensure layouts are clear and understood.
- Communicate discrepancies between design drawings and site conditions, recommending adjustments where necessary.
- Provide technical support and layout guidance to field personnel.
Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering or a related field (or equivalent field experience).
- 3–5 years of construction surveying or stakeout experience (civil, commercial, or infrastructure projects).
- Demonstrated expertise with survey layout and construction stakeout.
- Strong knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, or similar survey software.
- Ability to interpret civil and architectural construction drawings, grading plans, and utility layouts.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily field-based role with exposure to outdoor weather conditions and various terrain types.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, and set up survey equipment.
- Requires frequent standing, walking, and manual work in an active construction environment.
- May involve travel to multiple project sites.
