What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Extended Day Program position at Howard Gardner Community School?
Job Summary: Howard Gardner Community Charter School is seeking a visionary leader to launch and manage The Hive, our brand-new Before and After School Program. We aren’t looking for a babysitter; we are looking for an amazing candidate who can build a bustling, productive, and joyful ecosystem for our TK–8th grade students. The Director will design the program from the ground up, ensuring that when students are in The Hive, they are engaged in purposeful "work" that feels like play—through STEM, arts, and restorative community building.
Core Responsibilities:
- Architect of The Hive: Design a daily schedule that balances academic support ("The Study Cell") with high-energy project-based learning and physical play.
- Team Leadership: Hire, mentor, and inspire a crew of 5 Activity Leaders to maintain a high-vibe, supportive atmosphere.
- Community Connectivity: Act as the face of The Hive for parents and school leadership, ensuring seamless transitions between the school day and extended day.
- Restorative Culture: Ensure all "bees" in The Hive feel safe and valued by implementing the school’s trauma-informed and restorative justice frameworks.
- Operations & Safety: Manage enrollment, snacks, and safety protocols to keep The Hive humming smoothly.
- Mindset: A passion for Howard Gardner’s "Multiple Intelligences" philosophy.
- Experience: Proven track record in program management or educational leadership.
- Personality: Magnetic, organized, and capable of turning a new initiative into a beloved school staple.
