What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Electrical Engineer position at Hoverfly Technologies?
At Hoverfly Technologies, our Senior Electrical Engineer is at the center of what keeps our tethered drone systems in the air: the power and control electronics that have to perform reliably in real operational environments. This is a hands-on IC role where you'll own PCB design from schematic capture through flight-ready hardware, working alongside mechanical, test, and manufacturing teams on systems with active defense and commercial deployments.
Why You Want This Job
- Your PCB designs will fly on tethered UAS platforms supporting Army integrated tactical network and robotic combat vehicle programs
- Direct, full-lifecycle ownership of high-power and control electronics: concept, layout, test, sustainment
- Work with a collaborative engineering team in Sanford, FL where your input shapes real decisions and your work shows up in fielded systems
- Flight test access and real failure analysis on hardware operating in harsh field environments, not a lab-only role
- Competitive benefits including comprehensive healthcare, paid time off, and a retirement savings plan, plus occasional in-office perks like wellness events and catered meals
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain mixed-signal power and control electronics for tethered multi-rotor systems from concept through production
- Own all phases of PCB design in Altium or equivalent: schematic capture, layout, DFM, and acceptance testing
- Conduct electronics failure analysis and implement RF/EMI mitigation per MIL-STD-461
- Collaborate with mechanical and test teams on electronics packaging and hardware integration
- Coordinate with contract manufacturers on subassembly production, and contribute to roadmap and design review processes
Why You'll Be Successful
- 5–7 years of hands-on PCB design experience, including complex multi-layer layouts
- Proficiency with Altium, Mentor Graphics PADS, Xpedition, or HyperLynx
- RF Systems and MIL-STD-461 noise mitigation experience
- Demonstrated CoM/SoM integration experience
