JOB SUMMARY
The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa in Houston, TX is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Hotel Group Sales Manager to join our esteemed team. This role focuses on building strong client relationships, developing strategic sales plans, and ensuring the delivery of exceptional service that aligns with The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa brand standards. This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.
This position reports directly to the Director of Sales and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams including Sales & Catering, Banquets, Culinary, Reservations, and Front Desk, Health Club & Trellis Spa.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Proactively solicit new group business through direct sales calls, networking, and attending industry events.
- Identify and pursue new group business opportunities in all markets.
- Maintain strong relationships with existing clients and partners to ensure repeat business.
- Conduct site visits and presentations to showcase The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa's facilities and services.
- Negotiate contracts and manage group bookings from initial inquiry through post-event follow-up.
- Stay informed about market trends and competitor activities in the Houston area.
- Represent the hotel at industry events, trade shows, and networking functions.
- Work closely with operations teams to ensure seamless execution of group events.
- Maintain accurate records of sales activities and client interactions [Key Accounts]
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Group Sales Manager in a 4-Star luxury Hotel.
- Prior experience as a Hotel Conference Service Manager or Catering Sales Manager is preferred.
- Familiarity with all markets and travel trends.
- Strong knowledge of the Houston hospitality market and client base.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Delphi, Delphi Diagraming and Sendsites
- Must thrive in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively support Meeting & Events Managers in resolving issues as they arise
- Ability to travel as needed for client meetings and industry events.
- Experience with 4-Star luxury hotel brands is preferred
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift:
- Physical Stamina: Sit for extended periods of time, see and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids, enter data into computer, operate standard office equipment, use a telephone, hear and understand at normal levels and on the telephone, speak so that others may understand at normal levels and on the telephone, stoop, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull, move or lift up to 25 lbs. on an occasional basis.
- Hearing / Speech: Must be able to effectively engage in one-on-one communication with guests, members, and customers and use a 2-way radio to communicate clearly and accurately with co-workers.
- Vision: Must be able to accurately read instructions, reports, and log sheets. Must be able to work with computers and PDAs in varying light conditions.
- Literacy: Must be able to produce, read and understand reports, including security, incident and police reports. Must be able to analyze and process written information from a variety of sources and effectively communicate content of reports.
- Chemicals/Agents: Must be able to work safely with chemicals according to SDS sheets and all applicable laws, codes and regulatory requirements.
