School Counselor (Bilingual – English/Spanish)Job Description

The School Counselor is responsible for promoting student success, providing preventive services, and responding to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, social, and emotional development.

Position Note:
This is a bilingual (English/Spanish) counselor position. Tinsley Elementary serves a predominantly Spanish-speaking community, and the ideal candidate is fluent in both English and Spanish, with the ability to effectively communicate with students, families, staff, and community partners in both languages.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive counseling and guidance program based on the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) framework to address the needs of all students.
  • Conduct needs assessments and utilize data to identify and support targeted areas of need on campus.
  • Address all students' social-emotional development needs by designing, implementing, evaluating, and enhancing a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes student success.
  • Provide direct counseling services and interventions to students with identified academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Provide counseling services and family support in both English and Spanish to meet the needs of a bilingual school community.
  • Build strong partnerships with Spanish-speaking families by facilitating communication, conducting conferences, and connecting families with appropriate school and community resources.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and campus staff to support the academic, social, and emotional success of all students, including emergent bilingual learners.
  • Coordinate and partner with College and Career Readiness programs to expose and support student development of career awareness and academic planning.
  • Facilitate the scheduling and course selection process and ensure students' coursework is aligned to grade level and individual student needs.
  • Provide professional learning and in-service training on guidance topics and curriculum for teachers, administrators, and campus stakeholders.
  • Support teachers in developing and delivering classroom guidance activities and lessons aligned to the school's counseling curriculum.
  • Interpret standardized assessment results and other student data to help inform educational planning and student support.
  • Assist with counseling-related communication, presentations, and family engagement activities in both English and Spanish as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job QualificationsWork Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of exemplary teaching experience.

Required Certification

  • Valid Texas Education Agency School Counselor Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in English and Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing) strongly preferred.
  • Experience serving multilingual and culturally diverse student populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of personal computers and applicable software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and community partners in both languages.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with culturally and linguistically diverse students and families.
  • Ability to discern the sensitivity of internal and external communications in a large public organization.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to equity, student advocacy, and creating a welcoming environment for all students and families.

Working Conditions

Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus; judge distance (close and distant); reach with arms extended and use hands to manipulate a keyboard. Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, twist, bend, climb, and remain mobile throughout the workday.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $86,000.00 per year
