Overview:
The People Operations Recruiter is a full-cycle recruiting professional within the Housing Works People Operations team, responsible for supporting hiring efforts across multiple departments. This role partners closely with Human Resources, Hiring Managers, and external sourcing partners to attract, screen, and hire qualified talent while ensuring a positive candidate and hiring manager experience.
This position is ideal for an organized, detail-oriented recruiter with solid recruiting experience who is comfortable managing high-volume workflows, maintaining accurate data, and using Excel regularly to track recruitment activity and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Talent Sourcing & Outreach
- Source candidates using ATS platforms, LinkedIn, really (including sponsored postings), CUNY job boards, and other recruitment channels
- Support outreach efforts with external partners, workforce programs, schools, and community organizations
- Conduct cold outreach and candidate engagement to build and maintain recruitment pipelines
- Identify and participate in job fairs, recruitment events, and networking opportunities
- Document weekly sourcing, outreach efforts, and results for tracking and review
Resume Review, Screening & Interviews
- Review, screen, and document 30–40 resumes per week
- Conduct a minimum of 15 phone screenings per week using structured interview questions
- Coordinate candidate selection with Hiring Managers and People Operations partners
- Schedule interviews using Scheduling Assistant and manage interview logistics
- Coordinate individual and group interviews as needed
- Follow up with hiring managers for interview feedback and next steps
- Ensure recruiting activities follow applicable employment laws and internal guidelines
Hiring Coordination & Stakeholder Support
- Retrieve hiring requests through Salesforce and open requisitions as needed
- Communicate clearly with Hiring Managers regarding role requirements, candidate status, and timelines
- Support candidates through reference checks, clearances, and pre-employment steps
- Assist with offer and hiring coordination in partnership with HR
- Serve as a point of contact for candidates throughout the interview and hiring process
Recruitment Tracking, Excel & Reporting (Key Function)
- Maintain organized Excel spreadsheets to track:
- Open roles and hiring status
- Resume flow, screenings, interviews, and candidate outcomes
- Recruitment pipelines and sourcing activity
- New hire status and documentation
- Keep a shared, up-to-date candidate tracker with clear next steps and disposition reasons
- Prepare a monthly recruitment activity summary including resumes reviewed, screenings, interviews, and hires
- Ensure recruitment data is accurate, timely, and well organized
Onboarding & New Hire Support
- Coordinate onboarding steps and ensure required documentation is completed
- Assist with preparing and submitting new hire paperwork within established timelines
- Track compliance and onboarding requirements prior to start date
- Send start-date communications to new hires and hiring managers
- Assist with orientation logistics, ID cards, onboarding schedules, and training coordination
- Conduct check-ins with new hires during their initial onboarding period
- Track 30/60/90-day check-ins or evaluations and notify supervisors as needed
Continuous Improvement & Team Support
- Identify opportunities to improve recruitment efficiency and candidate experience
- Bring new sourcing ideas and recruitment strategies to supervision and team meetings
- Support People Operations initiatives and recruitment projects as assigned
- Perform additional duties as needed to support hiring and onboarding processes
Job Requirements
- BA/BS required
- 3–5 years of recruiting experience (full-cycle or high-volume preferred)
- Strong Excel skills required for tracking, reporting, and organization
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and follow-up skills
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Experience using ATS platforms and HR systems (UKG or similar preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to travel locally for recruitment events or meetings as needed
