Overview:
The Outreach Specialist will support the implementation of the Enhanced Distribution of Safer Sex Products Among Priority Populations in New York City (CON) contract. This role focuses on recruiting, onboarding, and maintaining Non-Traditional Sites (NTS) in Brooklyn to expand community access to safer sex materials. The Outreach Specialist will conduct outreach events, maintain distribution networks, and provide sexual health and harm reduction education to priority populations. As a frontline ambassador for Housing Works, the Outreach Specialist promotes HIV/STI prevention, sexual wellness, and harm reduction principles while building relationships with community stakeholders and ensuring compliance with NYC DOHMH protocols and reporting requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Non-Traditional Site (NTS) Recruitment & Safer Sex Product Distribution:
- Recruit, onboard, and maintain Non-Traditional Sites (NTS) in high-priority Brooklyn ZIP codes using NYC DOHMH talking points.
- Deliver a minimum of 100 safer sex products to 140 active NTS partners per month (35 per week).
- Submit required NTS documentation, including signed agreements, timestamped photos, and business cards.
- Conduct routine spot checks to ensure site compliance with NYC DOHMH safer sex distribution protocols.
- Maintain distribution logs and ensure timely data entry in NYC DOHMH’s online reporting system.
- Outreach & Community Engagement
- Plan, coordinate, and participate in outreach events across New York City.
- Engage priority populations at nontraditional venues (e.g., sex parties, raves, pop-up events, nightlife venues).
- Participate in community events such as health fairs, LGBTQ events, and testing events to engage at-risk clients and promote Housing Works services.
- Identify high-foot-traffic areas in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx to expand outreach reach and visibility.
- HIV Prevention & Testing
- Provide HIV prevention education, including harm reduction messaging and PrEP/PEP awareness.
- Conduct rapid HIV and Hepatitis C testing in accordance with NYC DOHMH guidelines and Housing Works protocols.
- Complete all required testing documentation, encounters, logs, and follow-up steps per contract standards.
- Linkage to Services & Navigation
- Refer individuals to Housing Works Behavioral Health Services, Medical Services, Housing Services, and other internal programs.
- Provide warm hand-offs and ensure clients are linked to appropriate care, prevention, or support resources.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all outreach interactions, NTS visits, testing encounters, and referrals.
- Complete required reporting according to DOHMH and contract standards.
- Ensure compliance with data accuracy, quality assurance expectations, and confidentiality protocols.
- Other functions that may be required with this position include
- Participate in department activities such as Care Coordination meetings, YPS Department meetings, and others as assigned
- Participate in Housing Works advocacy events
- Assist other YPS programs & staff as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- High School diploma/equivalent
- 2 Year degree in Human Service, Liberal Arts (Preferred)
