Purpose of Position
The IT Associate (Tier I) serves as the primary point of contact for technical support across Housing Alexandria, resolving end-user issues and managing hardware and software assets. This role plays a key part in transitioning IT operations from a third-party vendor to an in-house model by supporting system implementation, coordinating vendor relationships, and developing an internal knowledge base that promotes industry best practices. In partnership with leadership, the IT Associate will also contribute to strengthening IT processes, policies, and strategies to support a more efficient and sustainable internal infrastructure.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated problem-solver who can research, analyze, and present solutions to team members at all levels of the organization. They are eager to improve operational processes and can implement technological solutions. This role is required to be on-site a minimum of three days a week and travel within the City of Alexandria. This position will report directly to the IT Manager.
Primary Responsibilities
IT Support
- Provide helpdesk support: triage, diagnose, and resolve end-user hardware, software, and connectivity issues via ticketing system. (e.g., password resets, email/Office 365, printer, and peripheral troubleshooting); escalate complex or infrastructure-level issues to the IT manager as appropriate.
- Support IT-related data collection and analysis, including maintaining an asset inventory, tracking support metrics, and producing reports or proposals for leadership.
- Provide onboarding and offboarding support, including account creation/closure (Active Directory/Entra ID, Microsoft 365, and line-of-business apps), equipment provisioning/deprovisioning)
- Provide continuous training and education organization-wide on both IT Security best practices, avoiding phishing and malicious emails, and account management best practices.
- Collaborate with leadership to support special projects, vendor selection, and execute strategic operations.
Ongoing Work
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending subject-relevant educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Collaborate and support the Operations teams to oversee and execute policies, day-to-day tasks, trainings, and operations budget.
- Actively participate in all team meetings, training sessions, and other educational sessions and conferences as required.
- Support fundraising and community-building efforts.
- Foster Housing Alexandria’s mission, culture, values, strategic plan, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Perform other duties as directed.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- CompTIA Certificate, or similar level industry-recognized certification or education
- Excellent technical understanding and troubleshooting skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, explaining processes, effective writing, software, etc., and providing guidance and support for colleagues of all levels.
- Spanish literacy strongly preferred.
- Experience in research, data analysis, and problem-solving.
- Capacity to work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting the position's priorities.

Position Requirements
This is a full-time hybrid position that requires a minimum of three (3) full days per week in the HALX offices. Tuesday & Thursday are mandatory on-site days, with occasional evening and weekend work. The team member must be locally in the DMV area and have reliable transportation, as travel within the city of Alexandria is required.

Salary and Benefits
Commensurate with experience. $52,000 to $58,000 annually. This is a bonus-eligible position. Housing Alexandria’s benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.
