Title: House Director, Sigma Chi at Penn State
Reports To: President of Alpha Chi House Corporation - Board of Directors (Alpha Chi House Corporation)
Summary: The Alpha Chi Chapter of Sigma Chi is 132 years old and is thriving.We are seeking a live-in House Director for the Chapter House at the university. The Chapter House holds up to 40 residents with approximately 100 active undergraduate members of the fraternity. The House Director will be provided a live-in private apartment with private bathroom, bedroom, utilities including high speed internet, an off-street parking space, and meal plan.
House Director Role:
- Help to grow our undergraduates by interacting with them in their time at Sigma Chi at Penn State
- Provide the House Company with periodic monitoring of the Chapter House physical condition and the Active Chapter operational responsibilities for the care, maintenance, security, and safety of the Chapter House.
- Provide the Active Chapter membership with direct support regarding their concerns or issues with the Chapter House physical condition, building services, or building systems.
House Director Responsibilities:
- Know and abide by University/IFC rules and regulations that apply to Chapter House property as student housing.
- Know and abide by Borough of State College and Centre Region Code rules and regulations that apply to Chapter House property as student housing.
- Know and abide by Chapter House rules and by-laws that apply to the operational requirements to care for and maintain the Chapter House property.
- Know and abide by House Corporation rules and standards that apply to the Active Chapter occupancy of the Chapter House property.
- Know and abide by House Corporation directives to abate, remedy, or repair any deficiencies in Chapter House property or the Active Chapter occupancy of Chapter House property.
- Establish and maintain direct and constructive communications with Active Chapter leadership and general membership.
- Communicate with House Corporation or their designated contact on regular basis or as deemed necessary regarding Chapter House.
- Know basics of house systems [supported by House Corporation subject matter expert] and assist House Corporation coordination of building repairs or building service.
House Director Duties:
- Complete a daily Chapter House property inspection [approx. 20 min] of both internal/external common areas.
- Document daily inspection results [form/format provided] and report to House Corporation and Active Chapter designated contacts.
- Complete a weekly Chapter House property inspection [approx. 20-30 min] with Active Chapter House Manager that focuses on the resolution of concerns and/or deficiencies identified through HD daily inspections.
- Complete a weekly Chapter House kitchen and dining room inspection [approx. 20-30 min as needed] with Kitchen Manager that focuses on resolution of concerns and/or deficiencies identified through daily inspections.
- Meet weekly, or as deemed necessary, with Chapter Officers to review Chapter House condition and Active Chapter operational performance.
- Complete a weekly House Corporation report and summarize status of: a) concerns and deficiencies identified through daily/weekly inspections of Chapter House; b) operational performance of Active Chapter for the care, maintenance, security, and safety of Chapter House; c) problems/concerns with building systems or services; d) problem/concerns in repair or maintenance completed by vendor(s) contracted by House Company.
Required Skills:
- 3-5 years previous experience as a House Director.
- Ability to climb up and down several flights of stairs and lift 35 pounds if necessary.
- Live in the Chapter House, sleeping nightly at the House during academic periods.
- Ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with the collegiate members, parents, and alumni.
A background check will be required.
