The Restaurant Expo / Food Runner is responsible for ensuring food is presented accurately, delivered quickly, and served at the highest quality standards. This position acts as the communication link between the kitchen and front-of-house team while supporting servers and enhancing the guest dining experience.
Essential Job Duties
Expo Responsibilities
- Organize and coordinate food tickets for timely service.
- Inspect all plates for accuracy, quality, temperature, and presentation before leaving the kitchen.
- Communicate clearly with cooks, chefs, and servers regarding ticket times, modifications, and special requests.
- Ensure complete orders are sent together correctly.
- Maintain a clean, organized expo line and service window.
- Assist in managing kitchen flow during busy service periods.
Food Runner Responsibilities
- Deliver food promptly and accurately to guest tables.
- Identify dishes and present food professionally to guests.
- Assist servers with table maintenance and guest needs.
- Remove dirty plates when appropriate.
- Support teamwork between kitchen, bar, and dining room staff.
- Help reset tables and maintain dining room cleanliness when needed.
Qualifications
- Positive attitude and strong sense of urgency.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to remain calm and organized in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality required.
- Previous restaurant experience preferred but not required.
Schedule Requirements
- Must be available nights, weekends, and holidays as business demands require.
- Flexible scheduling preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry trays/plates up to 30 pounds.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and movement throughout shift.
