Job Overview
The Public Area Attendant is a guest-facing role responsible for cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining the hotel’s public spaces, restrooms, lobby, pool areas, front-of-house areas, back-of-house areas, offices, and assigned service spaces in accordance with hotel cleanliness, safety, and service standards. This role helps ensure shared areas are clean, well-stocked, safe, and welcoming while providing courteous, professional support to guests, team members, vendors, and visitors.

Job Responsibilities

Public Area Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean and maintain assigned hotel public areas according to established cleanliness, appearance, safety, and guest service standards.
  • Clean and sanitize lobby areas, seating areas, corridors, elevators, entryways, doors, public restrooms, pool areas, front-of-house areas, back-of-house areas, offices, and other assigned hotel spaces.
  • Clean and restock public restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, fixtures, counters, floors, dispensers, and trash containers.
  • Vacuum carpets and rugs; sweep, mop, dust, polish, remove debris, and spot-clean surfaces, glass, furniture, doors, railings, fixtures, and high-touch areas as needed.
  • Follow daily public area task lists, assigned checklists, cleaning schedules, and shift priorities to ensure all assigned hotel areas are completed timely and thoroughly.
  • Perform other cleaning, restocking, guest service, and housekeeping-related duties as assigned by the supervisor or hotel leadership.

Restocking & Operational Support

  • Restock restroom supplies, paper products, soap, sanitizer, towels, pool towels, and other assigned service items.
  • Empty trash containers and replace liners in public areas, restrooms, offices, back-of-house areas, and assigned service spaces.
  • Report maintenance issues, spills, hazards, damaged fixtures, leaks, equipment concerns, or areas needing attention.

Guest, Team Member & Visitor Service

  • Greet guests, team members, vendors, and visitors warmly and provide courteous assistance related to cleanliness, supplies, spills, restrooms, directions, or assigned areas.
  • Maintain a respectful approach to guest privacy, employee work areas, office spaces, and hotel security procedures.
  • Maintain a polished, approachable presence in guest-facing areas and represent the hotel in a professional and hospitality-focused manner.
  • Communicate service or cleanliness concerns promptly and appropriately to help maintain a positive guest experience.

Safety, Compliance & Standards

  • Follow all hotel safety, sanitation, hygiene, chemical handling, restroom cleaning, pool area, and public space procedures, and comply with company policies and housekeeping guidelines.
  • Use assigned safety equipment and follow hotel response procedures when working in restrooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, offices, or other designated spaces.
  • Complete required job-related, safety, compliance, service, and company training as assigned.
  • Accurately follow procedures for tracking assigned areas cleaned, restrooms serviced, supplies used, incidents, maintenance concerns, and related housekeeping records when required.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience: Previous hotel housekeeping, public area, janitorial, custodial, resort, hospitality, or commercial cleaning experience preferred.

Travel required: None.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, lift, and move throughout assigned hotel areas for extended periods during the shift.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of housekeeping supplies, trash, linen, amenities, and cleaning products up to 25–50 lbs.
  • Continuous physical activity throughout shift in public areas, restrooms, pool areas, front-of-house areas, back-of-house areas, offices, and nearby service spaces.
  • Ability to push and pull housekeeping carts, cleaning equipment, trash bins, linen carts, and related supplies.
  • Ability to work in various hotel environments, including guest-facing public spaces, restrooms, pool areas, offices, service areas, and back-of-house spaces, with exposure to approved cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Capacity to perform repetitive physical tasks efficiently and safely.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
  • Effective time management and ability to complete assigned public area cleaning tasks, checklists, and shift priorities efficiently while maintaining hotel cleanliness and quality standards.
  • Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated work ethic with the ability to follow assigned schedules, safety procedures, workload procedures, and reporting practices.
  • Basic communication skills.
  • Customer service mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, and varied shifts as scheduled; overtime will be handled according to hotel policy and applicable law.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment is a plus; willingness to complete required housekeeping, safety, sanitation, and guest service training.
