What are the responsibilities and job description for the Human Resources Generalist position at Hospice of the Piedmont (North Carolina)?
This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
Location: Asheboro, NC office with expectation to regularly travel to the High Point, NC office.
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing a broad range of HR functions, including payroll administration, HR reporting and analytics, workers’ compensation coordination, performance management, and employee relations. This role operates with a high degree of independence, judgment, and confidentiality, supporting organizational goals while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and internal policies.
Essential Duties Day to Day:
- Administer end-to-end payroll processing on a scheduled basis, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to federal, state, and local regulations; maintain payroll records including earnings, deductions, taxes, and garnishments, resolve discrepancies, respond to employee inquiries, and coordinate with Finance to support reporting and audit activities.
- Maintain and ensure the accuracy of HRIS records supporting payroll and timekeeping processes; train managers and employees on system functionality and best practices; generate standard and ad hoc reports for departmental and leadership use and identify opportunities to optimize system functionality for improved data integrity and process efficiency.
- Maintain and audit employee personnel files to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable policies and regulatory requirements; implement consistent recordkeeping practices and proactively identify and resolve discrepancies to mitigate risk.
- Support and administer the organization’s performance management processes, applying sound judgment to promote consistency and fairness in evaluations; partner with managers to monitor completion, provide guidance on best practices, and reinforce accountability for individual and team performance outcomes.
- Recommends and implements policies and procedures in the areas of employment practices, timekeeping, performance evaluation and other personnel issues in compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.
- Administers the workers’ compensation program, exercising independent judgment in claim evaluation, carrier coordination, regulatory compliance, and return-to-work strategy to mitigate organizational risk, control costs, and ensure a safe, compliant, and employee-centered workplace environment. Partners with the VP, Quality and Compliance to mitigate accident and injury trends.
- Ensures compliant reporting to external parties as required by law including payroll tax, employment security, Bureau of Labor and Statistics, OSHA and New Hire reporting.
- Processes, reviews, and responds to unemployment claims, including gathering and submitting required documentation.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field required; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- Minimum of three years relevant experience as a Human Resources Generalist or equivalent human resources professional
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred
- Prior payroll processing experience required, certification preferred.
- Experience with UKG preferred
