The Supervisor III is self-motivated with a talent for organizing outstanding and unforgettable events, programs, and camps. This professional possesses a sound knowledge of vendor and event coordination, staff management, recreation program planning, an attention to detail, and strong customer service skills. The work of the Supervisor III involves the exercise of initiative, sound judgement, continual learning, and discretion in the performance of duties. Assignments are in the form of a general outline or desired results, with methods and routines developed and implemented as appropriate. This position requires an individual who can seek and grow professional relationships with community groups and individuals to develop new community engagement through special events and recreation programs.
- Assess and evaluates community recreation needs as it pertains to county-wide afterschool, summer camp, senior programs, and limited special events for the Parks and Recreation Department. Assess and evaluate community recreation needs and programs in their district under the supervision and guidance of the Operations Manager. Develops and prepares short-term, mid-range and long-range plans to be intergraded into the Parks & Recreation overall planning process. Conducts research and analyzes need for programs; manages staff on program design, content and delivery. Conducts research, analyzes information, and prepares reports on special projects as assigned. Directs program evaluation process to include program delivery, customer service and effectiveness make recommendation for change and implements changes as authorized. Updates program design and content to keep within mandated Federal, State and affiliations standards. Provides input on future project and program needs, planning efforts, and community input for site updates as requested or required.
- Coordinates and schedules and use of facilities among afterschool, summer camp staff, limited special events, and senior programs. Including set-up, fees, timely payment, follow-up of non-payment, breakdown, clean-up, etc. Prepares and reviews reports, memorandums, letters etc. for the department as directed.
- Provide friendly, timely and responsive customer service. Designs and prepares communications the public. Speak at public functions when necessary. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with staff, organizations/groups, government agencies and the public. Represents the department in County, State or National organizations as directed by the Director of Parks and Recreation or designee. Coordinates with other county departments to ensure proper accuracy, correct and compliant with county policies and procedures.
- Directs the activities of full-time and part-time employees in the performance of county-wide afterschool, summer camp, senior programs, and limited special events for the Parks and Recreation Department. Hires and trains staff, supervises staff, and coordinates with other District Supervisors, Community Center Supervisors and Program Coordinators. Handles disciplinary issues among program participants and subordinates. Maintains certain personnel records including training records, staff phone lists, payroll records and distribution of such to supervisors for accuracy. Supervises, manages and directs staff to assist with programs, activities and essential functions.
- Inspects facilities and submits reports or work order requests to Director Parks and Recreation or designee. Perform work safely in accordance with department safety procedures and the County Safety Program. Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work conditions or practice to Supervisor. Establishes and enforces rules, regulations and procedures as allowed by Department Head. Enforce rules, regulations and procedures as instructed by the Operations Manager, via the Director of Parks and Recreation.
- Maintains and monitors financial and activity records. Develops and manages a budget for area of control. Monitors expenses and revenues. Submits reports monthly to Operations Manager. Obtain quotes, enter requisitions and perform ordering of supplies, materials or services as directed by supervisor within County policies. Ensures all rules and regulations with the procurement department are followed including but not limited to quotes, requisitions, purchase orders and p-cards.
- May be required to work after normal hours as necessary to meet deadlines or due to unexpected situations requiring immediate response. Work non-traditional beyond the 8a.m. to 5p.m. hours. May include some evening, weekend and holiday work. Some travel may be required.

- Practice continuous learning through individual study, classroom training, seminars and conferences.
- Directs the development and implementation of operating policies and procedures.
- Prepares reports, correspondence, entering computer data, answering telephone and assisting the public.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned or needed.
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration or related field supplemented by two to three years of recreation programming, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
