Overview
Provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete and record monthly fire drills, health & safety checks, and bi-yearly shelter in place drills
  • Maintain 30 hours of childcare related training every two years
  • Record all CACFP snack requirements and submit to Hornell Office by pre set deadlines
  • Submit all snack orders to Director by pre set deadline
  • Ensure all payments and attendance records are dropped to the Hornell Office every Friday
  • Create monthly/weekly staff schedules to ensure ratio
  • Supervises the children, staff, and all activities to ensure everyone is engaged
  • Maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents
  • Maintains program site and equipment by keeping materials clean (sanitized weekly) and organized
  • Maintains required program records as per OCFS Attends and participates in all required program activities, staff meetings, and staff trainings
  • Attend Monthly planning meeting with Supervisor
  • Abides by all OCFS licensing regulations
  • Report all suspected situations of child abuse/mistreatment to Mandated Reporter and Director
  • Must help train new staff at your location
  • Continue to grow staffs knowledge and strengths
  • Delegating daily program planning 1st line of communication between child, parent and staff matters and concerns
  • Must hold weekly staff meetings
  • All other duties assigned by the Director

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma OR Associate's degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field/ OR a School Aged Childcare Credential Must have two years direct experience working with children under 13 years of age
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Foundations in Health and Safety and Mandated Reporter trainings completed before start date.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities according to set standards.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Must meet all OCFS hiring requirements including but not limited to; Cleared Background checks (Fingerprints, SEL, SCR) TB and Physical Form, 3 References, and Criminal History Statement.
  • Must complete a minimum of 30 hours of New York State required childcare training every two years of employment. (15 hrs within the first 6 months)
  • Must enjoy being with children and demonstrate a friendly personality
  • Must be able to communicate well others, including children, parents, and other staff members
  • Must be punctual, reliable, and flexible Experience with Pre-K children is desirable but not required

Licenses or Certifications

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
