What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controls Engineer position at Hormann North America?
Job Summary: Generally, the individual in this position would be responsible for tasks related to the day-to-day production, and general support of the business. This will largely be focused around being responsible for the companies manufacturing execution system, production line integration, data transfer, programmable logic controllers, and any other work to facilitate the interaction from internal systems to the production lines. The individual may be tasked with defining and documenting processes or working to improve processes on the production floor. Priorities and requirements do change so the individuals may at times be asked to get involved with customer requests or business requirements as well as providing critical product support to production, sales subsidiaries, outside sales staff, customers, end consumers, and any other party needing support deemed appropriate by management.
Major Responsibilities/Activities:
- Speak and communicate well with customers and colleagues.
- As experts for our products, the candidate may be given additional assignments which could require the utilization of any number of resources to achieve task objectives. Such projects could require skills or resources outside of the normal scope of the position(s); however, such assignments are to be expected and are not considered outside the scope of this position’s responsibilities.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
- Develop and document processes related to production.
- Must have the desire or interest to be hands on.
Minimum Requirements:
- Have obtained or actively in the process of obtaining a bachelor’s or associate degree in a related field, with 3-5 years of progressive manufacturing experience.
- Have practical experience in a related work environment.
- Programming background and/or knowledge of PLC’s is preferred.
- Have substantial experience and be able to demonstrate proficiency with the following software programs: MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel, and Ignite or other MES platforms.
- Have experience with an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software package such as Oracle, JD Edwards, or SAP. Hörmann LLC manages operations with SAP; therefore, experience with this package is preferred.
- Must have strong troubleshooting capabilities.
- Have the ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
- Have the ability to work flexible hours when required to complete necessary job assignments.
- Conduct activities by adhering to established procedures and approved processes.
- Must promote a safe work environment.
Essential Mental Functions:
- Must be able to follow an established routine and be predisposed to high level of interaction in a team environment.
- Successful candidates must be a highly organized, self-motivated individual who can work independently without continuous supervision.
- Be detailed in the creation or review of published documents.
- Be detailed in his/her work taking special precautions with regards to safety and security.
- Be open and honest with fellow staff members and the engineering manager to ensure the quality of work performed while fostering an open, honest, and ethical work environment.
Essential Physical Functions:
- Although the employee is not expected to perform extraneous physical activities in the completion of their work, frequent trips into areas of production may be necessary, therefore, they must be physically able to safely maneuver in production areas.
- May require walking primarily on a level surface for specific periods throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday.
Travel Requirements:
- The travel for this position is expected to be less than 20%.
Equipment Used:
The candidate may be required to use a variety of precision measuring devices as well as various computer-based software packages.
