Overview
The PSS (Personal Support Specialist) plays a crucial role in providing compassionate and dedicated care to individuals in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and private residences. This position involves supporting clients with daily living activities, ensuring their safety and well-being, and fostering a nurturing environment. Duties
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Provide patient observation and monitoring to ensure safety and well-being.
- Administer medications as prescribed and assist with care plans.
- Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and cognitive stimulation.
- Maintain cleanliness of living spaces and assist with light housekeeping tasks.
- Support individuals with developmental disabilities, including those with autism or Alzheimer’s disease.
- Utilize equipment such as Hoyer lifts for safe patient transfers when necessary.
- Document vital signs and report any changes in client conditions to appropriate personnel.
- Uphold HIPAA regulations to ensure client confidentiality and privacy.
Experience
Candidates should possess experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Group home or assisted living environments
- Home & community care services
- Nursing home or long-term care settings
- Direct support roles for individuals with disabilities
- Experience in caregiving, hospice care, or memory care
Preferred skills include:
- First aid and CPR certification
- Knowledge of patient monitoring techniques
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting clients
- Familiarity with meal preparation and cooking for dietary needs
- Understanding of dementia care practices
