Job Summary:
The Slitter Set Up Operator is responsible for setting up the slitter head/arbors which is used to process steel coils into specified widths. This role ensures production meets customer specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
· Review work order for:
· Material type and grade
· Coil thickness, width, and weight
· Number of cuts and finished widths
· Tolerances and edge quality requirements
Key Responsibilities:
1. Enter gauge and slit cut information into the slitter set up program
2. Print out the arbor set up and the overarm setup information.
3. Follow the setup instructions by loading the correct tooling and knives per the set-up calculations.
4. During the setup inspect the knives for wear. Replace knives when necessary to ensure a quality slit edge.
5. Inform your supervisor when the knives need to be sent out for sharpening.
6. Install the tooling locks on the arbor and check for proper clearance.
7. Switch the arbors after the previous order is complete.
Qualifications and Skills:
· High school diploma or GED required
· Previous experience setting up or operating steel slitting line or similar metal processing equipment preferred
· Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to read work orders and technical specifications
· Proficiency in basic math and measurement conversions
· Attention to detail with a focus on quality, efficiency, and safety
· Ability to stand for extended periods and lift materials as required
· Willingness to work overtime, rotating shifts, or weekends as needed
