Position Overview
Join HOPPECKE BATTERIES to lead and scale the purchasing function for a rapidly growing battery systems business in North America. This is a foundational, senior-level role responsible for purchasing strategy and execution across procurement, supplier management, and intercompany sourcing, while supporting manufacturing, warehousing, and production operations.
The Purchasing Manager will play a critical role in improving cost competitiveness, supplier performance, lead time, and working capital, while ensuring supply continuity and operational resilience across global and local supply networks.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing Strategy & Leadership
- Define and execute purchasing strategies aligned with business growth, production plans, and financial objectives.
- Establish purchasing governance, supplier strategies, and performance management processes.
- Act as the senior escalation point for supply, cost, quality, and delivery risks.
Intercompany & Global Procurement
- Lead all intercompany purchasing activities with Hoppecke Headquarters and affiliated entities.
- Optimize network capital, lead time, logistics, customs compliance, and total landed cost across international operations.
Supplier Management & Development
- Own strategic supplier relationships for critical materials, parts, and components.
- Drive continuous improvement in quality, delivery, cost, and supplier reliability.
- Lead supplier qualification and development for new products and projects.
- Oversee supplier corrective actions (CARs) related to quality nonconformities.
Cross-Functional Execution
- Partner with Planning, Production, Customer Service, Quality, and Finance teams to:
- Align purchasing plans with demand and production
- Reduce lead times and material costs
- Control inventory levels and minimize excess or obsolete stock
- Ensure purchase orders and purchasing data are accurate, timely, and compliant within ERP systems.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Supplier On-Time Delivery (OTD)
- Purchase Price Variance (PPV) / Cost Reduction
- Inventory Turns / Working Capital Improvement
- Average Purchasing Lead Time
- Supplier Quality Performance (PPM / NCs)
- Supply Disruptions due to Material Shortage
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field.
- 8 years of purchasing or supply chain experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Proven experience in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiation, and cost management.
- Experience with intercompany and international procurement preferred.
- Strong ERP, analytical, and financial skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 10%.
