CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Oversees the Senior High School (9th-12th) instructional/ learning program and services, which are appropriate in meeting the academic, cultural, emotional, social, physical, creative and other holistic needs of 9th -12th grade students.
  2. Develops and monitors student progress utilizing performance-based, "authentic" and appropriate methods and processes to evaluate student learning and development.
  3. Conducts 9th -12th grade instructional and other staff meetings to ensure participatory planning, development, problem-solving, decision-making, and other school improvement activities that include curriculum, assessment, student input into planning and decision-making, extra-curricular activity options and resources, educational trend and research discussions, effective practices reviews, staff performance expectations and needs, and other participative activities.
  4. Monitors the development of learning activities to ensure that these activities compliment established Student Outcomes for appropriate age, grade-level, and developmental abilities.
  5. Establishes and implements an effective methods and process for the conduct of frequent informal and formal classroom observations to assist teachers in continually developing their abilities to plan, implement, and facilitate learning activities for 9th-12th grade students.
  6. Monitors the development and maintenance of student records that include: attendance, academic and other achievement, evaluation, enrollment, CDIB, and other appropriate and required student records.
  7. Ensures that the 9th -12th educational/ learning program compliance with accrediting agency standards and requirements of the Hopi Junior/Senior High School.
  8. Ensures proper and equitable administration of and provide direct oversight and implementation of student rights and responsibilities, and expectations of students as incorporated into the student handbook.
  9. Establishes and implement activities designed to ensure that parents of children enrollment in the school have the opportunity to become involved as true partners in the education of their children, and the design of programs, policies, procedures, and activities of the Hopi Junior/Senior High School 9th-12th grade program.
  10. Develops and monitors the implementation of processes designed to consistently provide students with opportunities to be involved in decision-making on matters regarding students, programs, policies, procedures, activities, and other aspects of school operation, implementation, and evaluation.
  11. Functions as a resource in the identification and acquisition of learning equipment, materials, supplies, programs, and other resources needed to continually improve the Senior High learning program of the Hopi Junior/Senior High School.
  12. Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Hopi Junior/ Senior High School Governing Board Policies and Procedures, and certified financial accounting and reporting policies and procedures.
  13. Ensures, in coordination with the Hopi Junior/Senior High School Activities/ Athletic Director that Senior High students have access to a coordinated and balanced extracurricular program of activities that include psychomotor, creative, cultural, academic, and other development of students.
  14. Manage conflict constructively at all levels.
  15. Ensure a safe, secure and orderly environment for all.
  16. Enforces disciplinary policies and procedures with students.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Knowledge of general school site rules and policy.
  2. Knowledge of Governing Board rules of conduct and policy.
  3. Skill in communicating orally and in writing.
  4. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
  5. Maintains professional but friendly demeanor at all times. Works well with a variety of different individuals, age levels and stakeholders.
  6. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others, requiring the ability to interact professionally and courteously with students, faculty, staff and the public.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must possess a valid and unexpired Arizona State Principal Certificate and driver’s license
  2. Five (5) years of successful experience in K-12 education
  3. Evidence of successful instructional leadership in K-12 education
  4. Demonstrated experience and competency required in areas of personnel supervision and evaluation; educational assessment; educational planning; effective teaching and learning styles; educational research; leadership development; educational transformation and restructuring; and other appropriate areas of competency.

 

PREFERRED QUAILIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's or doctorate degree in education or related field.
  2. Three (3) years of successful experience in a school administrative leadership position; previous successful.
  3. Experience in serving as a Principal in a Tribal Grant School or other Tribally-Controlled School preferred.
  4. Hopi/Indian Preference in employment considered.
  5. Valid State Driver Licenses.
  6. Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  7. Must successfully pass employment background checks within the last five years which include state, federal and local tribe.

 

INDIAN PREFERENCE POLICY: Hopi/Indian preference in employment will be practiced, in accordance to the Hopi Tribe, “any person who is presently an enrolled member of the Hopi Tribe.” Shall mean that in selection process Indian candidates who meet or surpass qualifications for a position shall be given preference for positions established by the Governing Board.
