Hopeful Beginning is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals and families through pregnancy, parenting, and adoption-related services. Our perinatal mental health program supports pregnant and postpartum individuals—particularly those facing complex social, economic, and emotional stressors—by providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and strengths-based care.

We are seeking a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) to provide clinical services to perinatal clients including those experiencing postpartum depression/anxiety, pregnancy-related grief and loss as well as adjustment to parenthood issues.

Position Summary

The Perinatal Mental Health Clinician provides psychotherapy, assessment, and care coordination to pregnant and postpartum clients experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, adjustment disorders, and related concerns. This role is ideal for a self-directed clinician who values community-based work, cultural humility, and collaborative care.

Conduct biopsychosocial assessments, risk assessments, and treatment planning.

Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation in accordance with agency, ethical, and payer requirements.

Collaborate with case managers, birth parent counselors, medical providers, and community partners as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Provide crisis intervention and safety planning when indicated.

Utilize evidence-based and perinatal-informed approaches (e.g., CBT, IPT, trauma-informed care, attachment-based interventions).

Participate in case consultations and program meetings as needed.

Comply with all HIPAA, licensure, and professional practice standards.

Deliver services in compliance with Illinois Medicaid and managed care organization (MCO) requirements.

Complete Medicaid-compliant clinical documentation, including treatment plans, progress notes, diagnoses, and medical necessity determinations within required timelines.

Coordinate care with Medicaid providers and community-based organizations as needed.

Support credentialing and revalidation processes by maintaining accurate CAQH profile, NPI information, and required licensure/insurance documentation.

Required Qualifications

Active Illinois license as an LCSW or LCPC (in good standing).

Fluency in Spanish and English (spoken and written).

Minimum of 1 year post-licensure clinical experience.

Experience providing psychotherapy to adults; perinatal or maternal mental health experience strongly preferred.

Knowledge of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), trauma, and family systems.

Strong clinical judgment, organizational skills, and professional boundaries.

Reliable access to secure internet and private workspace for telehealth services.

Eligibility for Medicaid credentialing in Illinois, including possession of an NPI number and professional liability insurance meeting Medicaid requirements.

Ability to meet Medicaid and managed care compliance standards for documentation, service delivery, and privacy.

Preferred Qualifications

Training or certification in perinatal mental health (e.g., PSI, PMH-C) or willingness to pursue.

Experience working with immigrant communities and underserved populations.

Prior experience providing services reimbursed by Illinois Medicaid and/or managed care organizations.

Familiarity with Medicaid billing workflows, authorization processes, and utilization review standards.

Meaningful work within a mission-driven nonprofit organization.
