Position Summary:

This position is inclusive of all general warehouse and driver duties associated with the functioning and operation of the HVA Food Bank as instructed by the USDA/Warehouse Manager and VP/Executive Director.

Job Specifications/Qualifications: (Min. knowledge, skills, and abilities required) .

- Education/Training (or equivalent): H.S. Degree* College Degree* Certification/License*

A High School diploma or higher is desired but not required if work experience is evident. Possess a current and valid Florida Drivers License.

- Experience: (Type of work experience, min. number of years):

1 to 2 years of general warehouse experience is necessary for this position. Experience driving a box truck or bigger highly desired. Possess the ability to safely drive a box truck.

- Technical or Administrative Knowledge:

The ability to operate a forklift, electric and manual pallet jacks, and advanced truck operations are required skills. Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Access is a plus.

- Special Skills and Abilities and/or:

Employee will need the ability to communicate and relay information in an orderly and timely fashion. Organizational skills and the ability to follow directives are requirements. Forklift Certification (or obtain within 90 days of employment), ability to lift 60 pounds, and drive a truck and forklift proficiently. CDL preferred, but not required. Valid Drivers’ License and insurance required.

- Physical Requirements: Working Conditions and Schedules:

G - Interacting with co-workers, vendors, and customers.

M- Exposed at times to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.

M - Exposed to various noise levels (L= private office, M= showroom/service area, G= jackhammer/metal works/heavy equipment)

M - Office machines, phones, fax, computers, postage meter, etc.

G - Working environment: non-private, varies from public and private streets, outside open parking lot, to showroom, to cubicle workspace, to adaptive office.

L - Available to works nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

Light: Lifting 0-10 pds. Moderate: Lifting 0-25 pds. Heavy: Lifting 25 pds.

General:

• Follow the administrative guidelines and policies established by HVA.

• Maintain a community image consistent with the HVA mission.

• Engage in a relationship with HVA and the Food Bank Team, which is mutually beneficial, fosters teamwork, and advances the mission of HVA.

• Exercise due care and stewardship of resources which are given to HVA and Food Bank including equipment, food, money, volunteer and staff time.

• Be aware of the general physical environment for the health and safety of all people and proper maintenance of facilities.

Driver Functions:

• Deliver USDA/TEFAP commodities as directed by the USDA/Warehouse Manager.

• Pick up donated food from a variety of locations, such as, congregations, food drives, grocery stores and other businesses.

• Ensure food is unloaded, weighed, recorded and moved to the proper area for sorting.

• Act as back-up USDA/TEFAP driver as directed by the USDA/Warehouse Manager and/or Program Director.

• Maintain drivers log and daily vehicle checklist.

• Report any vehicle issues and/or accidents immediately to your supervisor.

Warehouse Functions:

• In conjunction with the USDA/Warehouse Manager, responsible for assuring the food distribution area is maintained and that adequate food supplies are available for the distribution team.

• In conjunction with the USDA/Warehouse Manager, works with volunteers and community service workers to ensure food distribution runs smoothly.

• Assists the USDA/Warehouse Manager in assuring the Food Bank vehicles are properly maintained.

• Assist in maintaining the warehouse in a clean and orderly manner and assist in keeping the Food Bank property orderly and free of debris.

• Prepare warehouse for and perform all opening & closing functions and operations for warehouse.

• Prepare and set up food distribution areas for daily business.

• Unload, weigh, and record incoming shipments of emergency food delivered to Food Bank by donors.

• Unload and distribute USDA/TEFAP commodities as directed by the USDA/Warehouse Manager.

• Unload, weigh, record and distribute Feeding Pinellas product as directed.

• Assist volunteers and community service personnel in their assigned tasks.

• Build orders for USDA sub sites and Feeding Pinellas partner agencies as directed.

• Keep all skids, pallets, and containers in their assigned places.

• Weigh and record perishable and non-perishable donation waste on a daily/weekly basis.

• Assist drivers in pulling USDA/TEFAP commodities in reparation of delivery to sub-sites.

• Assist USDA/Warehouse Manager with data collection for periodic inventory.

• Assist in maintaining in workable fashion all Food Bank equipment necessary to perform daily tasks.

Advancement/Community Relations:

• Collaborate with other organizations and groups within the community to build partnerships and enhance fundraising activities.

• Assist in planning and coordinating events meant to raise funds (sanctioned events, community events, etc).

• Provide staff support at events, as needed.

• All other duties as assigned by USDA/Warehouse Manager and Program Director
