Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Director to lead and oversee the operations of Hope Childcare Center. This pivotal role requires a passionate leader dedicated to fostering a nurturing, educational, and inclusive environment for young children, while supporting the development of staff. Our desired Executive Director is a productive communicator with strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of how a state-licensed childcare center serving infants, toddlers, and preschoolers operates. Candidates should have a thorough understanding of childcare licensing rules for the State of Michigan. Executive directors must be organized individuals who can manage the ever-changing conditions and needs of our young children, their families, and the staff.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Responsible for the general management of the center
- Assist the board in developing, implementing, and evaluating program and center policies.
- Administering day-to-day operations, including being available to address parent, child, and staff issues.
- Monitoring staff, including annual evaluations.
- Productive and positive communication with program families.
- Ability to lead a team of individuals serving infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
- Ability to manage a schedule and deadlines which benefit the proper functioning of HCC, including their own schedule which can vary depending on the needs of the program.
- Build and maintain the staff schedule
- Ability to submit payroll to our board treasurer and financial firm within the requested time frame
- Ability to work within a budget as approved by the board of directors
- Purchase items and build nutritious snack menus closely aligned to CACFP guidelines and within the budgeted allowance.
- Strong ability to understand licensing rules for the State of Michigan
- Enrollment management, including the ability to forecast start dates for each age group and communicating that with prospective families
- Ability to utilize technology such as Google Workspace and Procare.
- Ability to manage tuition billing and work with various financial assistance programs such as CDC, TriShare, Childcare Aware, etc.
- Understand how a nonprofit organization functions
- Create & maintain a positive, nurturing, and fun learning environment for our community’s youngest learners and the individuals who serve them.
- Maintain positive relationships with coworkers, families, and building personnel. Maintain an understanding that Hope is a space shared by Sunday Kids’ Ministry as well as other First UMC events.
- Effectively manage the spectrum of behaviors one can encounter when working with children. Ability to provide evidence-based strategies so children and families are supported.
- Physically able to work and play with children indoors or outdoors- including floor play.
- Engage with and understand the functioning of the different affiliate systems required of childcare settings including (but not limited to): Great Start to Quality, MiRegistry, MILEAP, etc.
- If not already a certified trainer on MiRegistry, become one within 30 days of employment
- Maintain a clean environment and follow program health guidelines
- Through collaboration with the program director, utilize provided curriculum materials effectively, seek resources to create additional tools, and help build/maintain an assessment program.
- Professional use of cell phones, social media, newsletters, calls, and texts including proper grammar.
- Create & maintain a policy for content sharing (i.e. overuse of children’s pictures online).
- Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings.

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
