Hooker Creek Companies is seeking a Safety Specialist to support and strengthen our company-wide safety program. This role works closely with the Safety Director to help maintain compliance with federal and state regulations while promoting a strong, practical safety culture across all divisions.

This is a hands-on, field-oriented position that blends safety inspections, training, incident response, and regulatory support. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working independently, and confident interacting with employees at all levels of the organization.

What You'll Do

  • Support and reinforce a positive safety culture across all company operations
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with OSHA, MSHA, and DOT/FMCSA regulations
  • Conduct safety inspections at job sites, plants, and facilities
  • Coordinate and document safety meetings and trainings
  • Assist with development and delivery of employee safety training, including new hire orientation
  • Participate in incident response, including investigations and documentation
  • Help maintain OSHA logs, safety records, and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Assist with job safety analyses and implementation of safe work practices
  • Support regulatory inspections and documentation as directed
  • Review driver safety videos and provide coaching feedback
  • Collaborate with the Safety Director, HR, and field leadership on safety initiatives
  • Respond to after-hours safety incidents as needed

What We're Looking For

  • 2 years of experience in safety or employee management (construction, mining, or similar industry preferred)
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations; MSHA and DOT experience a plus
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently while following established procedures
  • Punctual and reliable, with the ability to accommodate early morning start times as required by operations
  • Solid organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in both office and field environments

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Excellent communication, adherence to deadlines, and the ability to prioritize in an ever-changing environment
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills for complex and nuanced situations
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to assess others' interests and tactfully deliver difficult messages
  • Minimum of two years of experience in occupational health and safety, preferably in construction or mining industries; experience with DOT driver regulations is a plus.
  • Job-related safety credentials such as OSHA 10/30/500 training, MSHA certification, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Valid Oregon driver's license required; must be insurable under company carrier.

Salary : $60,000 - $70,000
