Position Summary
The VDC Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting project delivery through BIM technology and virtual construction processes. This position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and coordinating project models, facilitating clash detection and constructability reviews, and helping transform model data into actionable field solutions.
The ideal candidate possesses strong technical modeling skills, a collaborative mindset, and a solid understanding of commercial construction means, methods, and sequencing.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and update 3D BIM models using Revit, Navisworks, and related software platforms
- Coordinate architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trade models for commercial construction projects
- Lead clash detection and coordination meetings with subcontractors and project stakeholders
- Conduct constructability reviews to identify and resolve conflicts before installation
- Support preconstruction efforts through model-based quantity takeoffs and estimating assistance
- Generate coordination drawings, shop drawing markups, model-derived documentation, and RFI support
- Partner with Project Managers and Superintendents to develop field-ready layouts and construction sequencing plans
- Update project models based on approved submittals, RFIs, design revisions, and field changes
- Support layout operations through point file exports and integration with total station technologies
- Assist with 4D scheduling, site logistics planning, and progress tracking using model data
- Train project teams and field personnel on BIM tools, model navigation, and VDC workflows
- Maintain organized project documentation within company project management and document control systems
Qualifications
Required
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field preferred
- Equivalent VDC, BIM, or construction coordination experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
- Proficiency in Revit and Navisworks
- Strong understanding of construction documents, specifications, and building systems
- Knowledge of commercial construction sequencing and coordination processes
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple project deadlines simultaneously
Preferred
- 2 years of experience in a BIM, VDC, or construction coordination role
- Experience with commercial construction projects
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, BIM 360/Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), and Procore
- Familiarity with MEP and structural systems coordination
- Experience with Trimble, Leica, or other layout technologies
- Knowledge of 4D scheduling and construction visualization tools
- Familiarity with drone-based site capture, laser scanning, or scan-to-BIM workflows
