Job Summary
The Information Technology Mainframe Operator works under the supervision of the IT Systems Operations Supervisor and is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and ensuring the smooth operation of IBM mainframe systems. This role involves managing system tasks, identifying and resolving issues, and coordinating with system programmers and production control teams to maintain system health and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Start and stop system tasks and monitor system consoles for unusual conditions
- Perform restart operations, including orderly system shutdowns and startups
- Operate and manage major subsystems such as:
- Transaction processing systems
- Database systems
- Operating systems
- Collaborate with system programmers to determine and implement appropriate solutions
- Work with production control analysts to ensure successful completion of workloads
- Monitor system performance and ensure operational continuity
- Maintain logs and documentation of system activities and incidents

- Programming/Scripting: ASSEMBLER, COBOL, REXX, JCL
- Networking & Systems: VTAM, TCP/IP, NETVIEW
- Platforms & Systems:
- IBM z-Series & p-Series
- Linux & Unix
- JES2, Tivoli, ESF, VTS
- Monitoring & Operations: ITM System Monitoring or equivalent
- Additional Tools: HMC, HOD, IODF, MVM
Additional Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Strong documentation and ticketing system experience
- Fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Mainframe Operator
- At least 2 years of experience with IBM System p-Series/z-Series platforms
- Minimum 1 year of experience in automation of system monitoring and maintenance
- Experience with ITM System Monitoring or similar tools
- At least 2 years of experience with:
- Windows Servers
- Linux Servers
- IBM Mainframe z/OS
- Experience maintaining detailed logs in a ticketing system
Education Requirements
- Bachelor s degree in IT or a related field, or equivalent experience in mainframe operations
Work Environment & Additional Information
- Location: Los Angeles (Local candidates only)
- Work Model: Hybrid (after 4 8 weeks of onsite training)
- Work Schedule: 24/7 IT enterprise environment with rotating shifts:
- Morning Shift: 6:00 AM 2:30 PM
- Swing Shift: 2:00 PM 10:30 PM
- Graveyard Shift: 10:00 PM 6:30 AM (next day)
- Candidates must be flexible to work any assigned shift
