The Kansas City National Security Campus is a U.S. Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration facility managed and operated by Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technology (FM&T). - The position being sought is a Mechanical Engineer III supporting firing systems and other major electrical assemblies
- The selected candidate acts as an authority in the field of Opto-Mechanical Engineering
- Plans, conducts, and coordinates a broad range of complex professional research, development, design, technology, manufacturing, or quality assignments requiring extensive knowledge of advanced techniques and principles and their application to specific projects
- Works under administrative direction only with considerable latitude for unreviewed actions or decisions
- This position will require both strategic and tactical thinking to support challenging technical activities
- Interaction and partnerships between Program Management, NNSA, design agencies, and most internal departments will be required
- Technical leadership of and direction for all aspects of opto-mechanical systems and possibly other optical assemblies not only within the assigned project and department, but also on a plant-wide consulting basis
- Provide technical leadership in the design of lasers, optical assemblies, fiber injection systems and simulation activities; plan and lead engineering laboratory activities in construction of prototype devices; provide feedback and recommendations to design agency counterparts regarding design validation tests
