Job Summary
We are incredibly excited to be adding to our team, our new shelter will be open by mid-summer and we need to add to our team.
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Caretaker to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal welfare and possess the skills necessary to provide high-quality care for a variety of animals. This role involves daily interaction with animals, ensuring their health and well-being, and supporting veterinary staff as needed. This job includes potential to grow, we are getting a new shelter on the same property and are searching for someone who is interested in learning animal welfare, this will lead to a full time position, which will then include health/medical and many more benefits.
Duties
- Provide daily care for dogs, including feeding, walking, basic dog training brushing and bathing.
- Provide daily care for cats, including feeding and brushing.
- Monitor animal behavior and health, reporting any concerns to shelter staff.
- Assist in administering medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians.
- Maintain cleanliness of animal enclosures, equipment, and common areas.
- Support veterinary technicians during examinations and procedures.
- Handle animals safely and humanely, ensuring their comfort and security.
- Educate pet owners on proper animal care practices.
Requirements
- Two Shifts to choose form, you must be able to work all the days in that shift: Shift A: Thursday, Friday and Saturday 8am-5pm, approximately 25-28hrs. Shift B: Sunday and Monday (8am-4pm), Thursday and Friday (8am-5pm), approximately 32-35hrs.
- Requirement: Have worked in one of the following in the last 2 years: Veterinary Clinic, Animal Shelter, Grooming Salon, Boarding Facility.
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Must have current Oregon Driver's license and transportation.
- Must live within 45 minutes of Shelter.
- Must be team motivated
- Minimal to no allergies to dogs or cats.
- Basic understanding of dog/cat behavior
- Working directly with dogs and cats, must be confident around them.
- Be able to stand for 8 hours and clean using long scrub brushes and hoses.Join us in continuing our legacy as Oregon's first no-kill shelter, established in 1975, giving our animals compassion, patience and safety.
