Position Summary:

**This position is Temporary through the end of December with possibility of going Permanent

The Charge Nurse is responsible for overseeing direct resident care, ensuring adherence to nursing standards and facility policies, and supervising nursing assistants. This role requires strong leadership, critical thinking, and communication skills to provide high-quality resident care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide supervision and evaluation of resident care, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures
• Conduct resident rounds, identifying and addressing concerns promptly
• Communicate and coordinate with nursing assistants, residents, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams
• Administer and document medications and treatments as prescribed
• Recognize and respond to resident emergencies, initiating life-saving measures when necessary
• Identify safety hazards and take immediate corrective actions
• Monitor, assess, and document resident conditions and interventions
• Report changes in resident status to the appropriate personnel and take necessary follow-up actions
• Oversee compliance with Residents’ Rights Program and maintain ethical and professional standards
• Supervise and evaluate nursing assistants, providing training and guidance as needed
• Attend staff meetings, in-service training, and other required meetings
• Assist in resident admission, discharge, and transfer procedures, ensuring proper documentation and communication with relevant departments
• Address concerns from residents, families, or physicians, implementing corrective action or escalating issues as needed
• Completes assigned monthly automated learning in accordance with Homestead Policy

Required Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing
• Licensed as an RN or LPN in the state of Kansas

• Current CPR certification
• Experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in long-term care or geriatric care, is highly preferred
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and patient care
• Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation using electronic health systems
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• A compassionate, patient-centered approach to providing care
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Attention to detail and adherence to care protocols

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality
• Prior experience working in a nonprofit or long-term care facility
• Current IV certification

Work Environment:
This position operates within a healthcare facility and requires frequent standing, walking, and hands-on resident care. The Charge Nurse must be able to respond effectively in high-pressure situations and maintain professionalism in interactions with staff, residents, and families.
