Carpenter

Homestead Gardens
Davidsonville, MD Full Time
POSTED ON 9/10/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/9/2026

Build it. Fix it. Improve it. Make it part of something special.

Homestead Gardens is looking for an experienced Carpenter to join our Facilities team and help bring our unique retail garden center and event spaces to life. This will be a seasonal position.

This isn't your typical carpentry job. Our 50-acre property includes retail garden center spaces, greenhouses, landscaped grounds, event venues, seasonal displays, and other unique features—so the projects are varied, hands-on, and often one-of-a-kind.

If you're a skilled carpenter who enjoys solving problems, building things that people actually use, and seeing the finished product come to life, we'd love to have you on our team!

What You'll Do

You'll be the go-to person for a wide variety of construction, repair, and improvement projects throughout the property, including:

  • Build, install, repair, and maintain structures, fixtures, displays, and property improvements.
  • Perform rough and finish carpentry, including framing, trim, doors, siding, decking, and other woodwork.
  • Build and modify retail displays and seasonal installations.
  • Construct and maintain event features such as platforms, stages, fencing, signage, and decorative structures.
  • Repair doors, gates, fencing, railings, benches, shelving, and other property features.
  • Assist with improvements to retail areas, offices, greenhouses, event spaces, and outdoor areas.
  • Measure, cut, assemble, and install materials with a high level of accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot problems and come up with practical, creative solutions.
  • Support the Events team with setup, installation, repairs, and breakdown of special events.
  • Work with Facilities, Retail, Landscape, and Events teams to complete projects safely and on schedule.
  • Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean, organized, and in good working condition.

Why This Job Is Different

At Homestead Gardens, you'll have the opportunity to work on more than the same projects day after day. Your work may involve building a custom retail display one week, repairing a structure the next, and helping create an event installation the following week.

It's a great fit for someone who enjoys variety, craftsmanship, problem-solving, and working with their hands.

Qualifications:

What We're Looking For

  • 3 years of professional carpentry or related construction/maintenance experience preferred.
  • Strong carpentry skills and knowledge of construction methods and materials.
  • Comfortable using common hand and power tools.
  • Ability to accurately measure, cut, assemble, and install materials.
  • Ability to read basic plans, drawings, measurements, and instructions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while also being a dependable team member.
  • Pride in producing quality workmanship.
  • Ability to safely lift and move materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • Experience in a retail, garden center, event venue, commercial property, or similar environment is a plus.

Schedule & Work Environment

This is an active, hands-on position with work taking place both indoors and outdoors. Because we are a busy retail and event destination, flexibility is important.

The schedule may include occasional weekends, evenings, holidays, or extended hours to support events, seasonal projects, and special assignments.

The Ideal Candidate

You are someone who:

  • Takes pride in doing quality work.
  • Can look at a problem and figure out how to fix it.
  • Doesn't mind getting your hands dirty.
  • Can work independently but enjoys being part of a team.
  • Pays attention to the details.
  • Is dependable, adaptable, and safety-conscious.
  • Enjoys seeing a project go from an idea to a finished product.
