School Adjustment Counselor K-8

Job Overview
The School Adjustment Counselor assigned to the Reflection Room will play a central role in supporting the social‑emotional and behavioral needs of students in grades K–8. The Reflection Room is a restorative, student-centered space designed to help students regulate, reflect, de‑stress, and prepare to rejoin the learning community. The counselor will guide students through structured reflection, teach coping strategies, and collaborate with staff to ensure students return to class ready to learn and participate positively.

This position is ideal for a compassionate, student‑focused professional who believes in restorative practices, proactive intervention, and the power of relationship-building.

Student Support & Intervention

• Welcome and support students referred to the Reflection Room for emotional regulation, behavioral reflection, or de-escalation.

• Facilitate structured reflection activities that help students understand their emotions, choices, and next steps.

• Teach and model coping strategies, mindfulness techniques, and self-regulation skills.

• Provide short-term, solution-focused counseling as needed.

• Monitor student progress and readiness to return to class.

Restorative Practices & Reintegration

• Guide students through restorative conversations and problem-solving processes.

• Support students in developing plans to re-engage successfully in their academic setting.

• Communicate with teachers and administrators regarding student needs, patterns, and reintegration plans.

• Promote a positive, inclusive, and trauma-sensitive environment.

Data, Documentation & Communication

• Maintain accurate records of student visits, interventions, and outcomes.

• Track trends to inform schoolwide SEL and behavioral supports.

• Collaborate with teachers, families, and support staff to ensure continuity of care.

• Participate in student support meetings, MTSS processes, and crisis response as needed.

Collaboration & Schoolwide Support

• Work closely with the school’s counseling team, behavior specialists, and administrators.

• Provide consultation to teachers on classroom strategies that support student regulation and engagement.

• Assist with schoolwide SEL initiatives, professional development, and prevention programming.

• Contribute to a culture of empathy, respect, and belonging across the school community.

Qualifications

Required

• Valid MA DESE School Adjustment Counselor/School Social Worker License

• Master’s degree in social work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field.

• Experience working with children and adolescents in school or clinical settings.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
