Founded in 2005, Holyoke Community Charter School (HCCS) offers a high-quality public education in grades PreK-8th. The school mission is to promote the joy of learning and to prepare children for success as students, citizens, and workers by providing them with a high-quality public education. Having recently completed a comprehensive strategic and academic plan, HCCS teachers are driven to support diverse learners through a multitude of ways to present content and assess performance. Moreover, HCCS recently completed construction of a new 22,000 sq. ft. wing, adding four new classrooms and a new 16,000 sq. ft. gymnasium. HCCS is raising the bar for what’s possible.
Positional Purpose:
The Academic Quality Controller (AQC) is responsible and accountable for the academic success of students. The AQC inspires teachers to excel in their jobs and motivates students to achieve their highest potential. The AQC provides instructional and administrative leadership to the teaching staff, oversees implementation of curriculum, coordinates exams and monitors student academic performance. AQC works closely with the School Director, the school administrative team, and SABIS® to ensure student success. They provide first contact to parents on academic issues and serves as liaison to the Parent Connection/Network. The AQC must attend all school functions.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Academics:
- Ensures the academic success of students.
- Recommends necessary actions and strategies; oversees effective implementation of curriculum and instruction.
- Reviews and implements pacing charts.
- Effectively coordinates the administration of tests/exams.
- Coordinates the timely and accurate data entry of scores.
- Thoroughly analyzes test results and academic performance.
- Identifies issues and recommends and implements solutions in a timely manner.
- Recommends, designs and oversees a quality summer school program.
- Reviews report cards for accuracy in academic entries and Student Code reporting.
Teachers and Staff:
- Ensures the rights spirit, determines and recommends optimum staffing needs, and teachers' workloads.
- Effectively assesses and recommends teacher candidates.
- Effectively monitors and assesses teacher performance, and ensures required training and development.
- Effectively trains and supports teachers in SABIS® methodology.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
- Master’s degree (Preferred)
- Demonstrated successful teaching experience
- Senior teaching or administrative position in education institution (Preferred)
- Teaching License/Certification

Typical hours are 7:45am – 3:20pm, with twice/month Wednesday staff meetings until 4:30pm.
