Position Overview
Holy Trinity Catholic Jr./Sr. High School in Fort Madison, Iowa is seeking an enthusiastic, skilled, and student-centered High School Trades Teacher to develop and deliver engaging instruction in career and technical education. This position will provide students with hands-on learning opportunities that prepare them for post-secondary training, apprenticeships, and careers in the skilled trades.
The ideal candidate will have practical experience in one or more trade fields and a passion for mentoring young people in a faith-based educational environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and deliver instructional lessons in trade and technical education courses such as construction, carpentry, welding, manufacturing, electrical, plumbing, or related fields
- Develop curriculum that aligns with Iowa Core standards and relevant career and technical education (CTE) frameworks
- Provide hands-on learning experiences in a safe, structured shop and classroom environment
- Instruct students in the proper use of tools, equipment, technology, and industry-standard practices
- Emphasize workplace safety, professionalism, and employability skills
- Assess and monitor student progress using a variety of assessment tools
- Maintain accurate student records, grades, and reports
- Collaborate with local businesses, community partners, and post-secondary institutions to enhance program opportunities
- Supervise and maintain the school trades lab, equipment, and inventory
- Integrate Catholic values and mission into daily instruction and student interactions
- Communicate regularly with parents, administration, and colleagues
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities
- Support extracurricular programs as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Industrial Technology, Career and Technical Education, or related field
OR relevant industry experience with willingness to obtain appropriate Iowa teaching licensure - Valid Iowa teaching license or ability to obtain licensure
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in one or more skilled trade areas
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and community partners
Preferred:
- Previous teaching or youth mentoring experience
- Industry certifications in a trade field
- Experience developing CTE curriculum
- Familiarity with project-based learning and workforce readiness programs
