Job Summary:
The Strat I Special Education Teacher provides individualized instruction to help students access the general education curriculum and achieve academic, social, and postsecondary success. This role involves collaboration with general education teachers, families, and support staff to implement effective instructional strategies and ensure compliance with all special education laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with student needs and Iowa Core Standards
- Provide direct instruction in reading, writing, math, and other content areas based on student goals
- Adapt and modify curriculum, assignments, and assessments to meet diverse learning needs
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and co-teaching opportunities
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation of data and services
- Facilitate and participate in IEP meetings, including progress reporting and annual reviews
- Implement behavior intervention plans and support positive student behavior
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs
- Coordinate services with related service providers (e.g., speech, occupational therapy, counseling)
- Ensure compliance with IDEA, Iowa Administrative Code, and district policies
- Support students in developing transition goals and postsecondary plans (education, employment, independent living)
