Position Overview:
Assistant Director of Child Care provides essential operational and instructional support across the Preschool, After School Care, and Summer Camp programs. This individual ensures that day-to-day transitions run smoothly, maintains program compliance, and assists with staff management, sub coverage, student supervision, staff files, staff onboarding and training, Summer Camp planning and prepping, Summer Camp supervision, lunch assistance, and After School Care direct supervision and on the floor monitoring and lesson planning. This role requires flexibility, strong organizational skills, motivation, being able to jump in without being asked, able to give feedback to staff, able to receive feedback from Executive Director and apply it, knowledge of Kentucky Childcare Regulations, can keep a positive presence and attitude while at work, and is able to keep confidentiality of all children and staff information.
Primary Responsibilities:
Preschool Mid-Day Duties
- Assist with lunch setup, supervision, and clean-up.
- Provide Planning/PLT sub coverage as needed.
- Support classroom staff with transitions and maintain a safe, orderly environment.
- Maintain knowledge of Brigance assessments and assist with screenings and documentation.
- Create and track staff time cards.
- Assist with substitute coordination and classroom coverage as needed.
- Maintain staff files
- Maintain staff onboarding and training
- After School Care Lesson Planning
- After School Care (ASC) Duties
- Actively supervise students across indoor and outdoor environments; maintain presence “on the floor” and ensure all areas have appropriate supervision.
- Oversee daily lesson plans and ensure planned activities are implemented effectively.
- Monitor and manage staff adherence to ASC routines, expectations, and professional conduct.
- Partner with Erin Craig on staff management and disciplinary follow-up when necessary.
- Ensure proper operation of the ASC check-out desk and maintain familiarity with CampBrain and Brightwheel systems.
- Oversee snack schedule, preparation, and set-up each day.
- Maintain compliance with state licensing regulations, required postings, and safety standards.
- Participate in emergency drills and ensure staff and students follow safety protocols.
- Administrative & Leadership Support
- Maintain and organize all staff files and required documentation.
- Support the hiring process by sitting in on interviews for ASC and Summer Camp staff.
- Assist with staff evaluations, end-of-year performance reviews, and status meetings.
- Support planning and implementation for Summer Camp operations and logistics.
- Communicate professionally with staff, students, and families as needed.
Summer Camp Duties
- Assist with planning, preparing, and organizing daily and weekly Summer Camp activities and logistics.
- Actively supervise campers both indoors and outdoors to ensure safety and high engagement.
- Supervise and manage all Summer Camp staff while maintaining appropriate ratios and coverage.
- Oversee lunchroom operations during Summer Camp, including supervision, behavior management, transitions, and staff lunch break schedules.
- Maintain visibility “on the floor” at all times to monitor staff performance, child engagement, and safety.
- Provide behavior management support, redirection, conflict resolution, and follow-up communication when needed.
- Supervise field trips, ensuring safe transitions, role-call procedures, bus expectations, and supervision standards across all locations.
- Oversee implementation of scheduled camp activities, water days, theme days, and special events.
- Assist with communication to families regarding camp updates, concerns, incidents, or schedule changes.
- Ensure camp compliance with state licensing, safety protocols, emergency procedures, and required documentation.
- Support onboarding, training, and coaching of Summer Camp staff to meet program expectations.
- Help evaluate and provide feedback for Summer Camp staff performance.
- Partner with the Executive Director and First Assistant Director to ensure the camp environment is organized, safe, engaging, and aligned with program goals.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in early childhood or school-age care preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Kentucky state childcare licensing standards.
- Familiarity with CampBrain, Brightwheel, and Brigance preferred.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to maintaining a positive and professional program culture.
- CDA, Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred
- Knowledge of Catholic School Culture
- Can pass Archdiocese of Louisville and State Background checks
- Within 60 days of hire can complete required head trauma and orientation training.
- Can go to Safe Environment Training and get Suicide prevention training completed before 1st day of work
- Can confidently sign a Christian witness statement
