General Summary: The Physician Assistant II will work in a team structure to provide the following:
- Perform the duties of the surgical PA
- Provide surgical assistance in the operating room as assigned by the PA Coordinator/designee. Perform daily post-operative rounds and follow-up with the attending surgeon. Perform admission history and physical examinations, daily progress notes, daily orders, and discharge summaries for patients admitted to them by the attending surgeon. Evaluate patients in the Emergency Center and on the surgical floor at the request of the attending surgeon.
- The PA will write history and physical exams, orders, daily progress notes, and facilitate/coordinate care of the patient as requested by the supervising physician. The PA may dictate discharge, transfer and death summaries, and write transfer orders and prescriptions as requested by the supervising physician.
- Perform bedside procedures including central venous catheter placement, tube thoracostomy, arterial catheter placement and peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) when credentialed to perform said procedures.
- Support Quality initiatives of Holy Cross Hospital including medication reconciliation, universal time out procedures, SCIP, VTE prevention, and electronic documentation
- Support timely, accurate and compliant professional billing.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required
- Have the ability to work in both the operating room and inpatient units
- Must maintain current licensing a Physician Assistant in the State of Maryland
- Must qualify for prescriptive authority
- Must possess excellent communication skills and function well in a team environment
- Must have and maintain ACLS certification
- Must be proficient or capable of becoming proficient in bedside procedures including central line and A-line placement, chest tube placement and PICC insertion.
