The Emergency Department Patient and Family Clinical Liaison (PFCL) serves as a liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team. The PFCL enhances communication between the healthcare team and patients and their families. by interpreting and explaining hospital processes, providing frequent status updates pertaining to the patient’s treatment plan and resolving patient problems and concerns.
Position Highlights
- Shift: Four (9) hour shifts (typically weekends included)

- Location: Holy Cross Health has two hospitals and four healthcare centers all a short driving distance from Washington DC and Baltimore, MD
- Helping the ER staff by being able to take the extra time with patients and acquiring information or history that is helpful to the care team that the patient may not have mentioned during Intake/Triage process.
- Assisting patients from the waiting room back into their assigned ER room and helping them prepare for the Nurse or Doctor to come into the room.
- Letting the patient know that there will be a nurse to come in shortly and showing them how to call the nurse on their remote should they need anything before the nurse arrives. Alerting the nurse that a new patient has arrived.
- Helping the ER nurses by taking vitals, charting, providing EKG's, getting beds ready for patients to come back, alerting the social workers when needed, and providing updates to the loved ones of patients who are waiting outside of the ER.
- Making sure they have a way home when discharged, calling a loved one to pick up, wheeling the patients outside to meet their rides, waiting with patients outside of the waiting room to make sure they are able to safely get in their ride
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant by the Maryland State Board of Nursing (required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Associate degree or equivalent (required)
- EKG skills preferred at hire
- Phlebotomy skills preferred at hire
- 1-3 years of work experience in a hospital setting
- Bilingual, English/Spanish
- $17.89 - $25.04 per hour
