The General Laborer duties vary depending on the setting they work in and their level of specialization. They help with general jobsite labor needs such as jobsite clean-up, moving, loading and unloading of materials, equipment and tool operation, miscellaneous carpentry tasks, demolition and assistance to carpenters and concrete workers.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all duties assigned by the Foreman and Superintendent
- Follow all HBI safety rules and all safety regulations
- General labor assistance to concrete crew
- Place, cut, and tie rebar or wire mesh
- Clean up jobsite from material waste, hazardous, and/or obsolete material
- Assist carpenters
- Handle and transport materials and equipment
- Use of power tools
- Operate machinery as needed
- Follow instructions from supervisors to perform manual labor tasks
- Put up warning signs (e.g. signposts, cones) for vehicles and passersby
- Report issues with equipment or unsafe conditions
Qualifications and Requirements
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy loads of up to 100 pounds etc.)
- Good hand-eye coordination
- Familiarity with power tools and machinery is a plus
- Communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to safety rules
- Able to work under outdoor conditions including heat, cold, snow and rain
- Apprenticeship or specialization is an asset, but not necessary
- Punctual, dependable, team player
- Strong work ethic
