Middle School Assistant Principal
Reports To: Principal Adam Colantuoni
Primary Performance Outcomes:
Provides overall support to the middle school principal
Provide operational leadership to ensure a positive school climate, a safe and supportive learning environment, and smooth day to day operations of the learning environment and school campus
Continuously engages all stakeholders in developing and implementing a shared, equity-oriented educational vision grounded in high expectations and high support for the academic, social, and emotional development for all students
Instructional Leadership
Serve as the primary evaluator to an assigned caseload of teachers/staff
Support and provide leadership to teachers/staff in the development and implementation of their individual goals and their professional development
Provide support and guidance in assisting teachers with effective classroom management strategies
Serve as member of hiring committees for open/anticipated positions
School Culture/Climate
Support students' physical and social emotional well-being through direct work with students and collaboration with families, teacher teams, and other school staff
Establish, communicate, and maintain clear expectations and high standards for student behavior as outlined in the student handbook
Proactively communicate with and respond to parents/guardians on all matters pertinent to assigned caseload of students
Provide building leadership in the areas of student and adult social emotional learning and restorative practices
Lead monthly community-building meetings with students and staff to recognize student growth, achievement, and citizenship
Establish, maintain, and supervise safe and supportive routines during student lunches, in hallways, and before and after school when students are on campus.
Attend student extracurricular activities in a supervisory capacity as needed
Meet regularly with a team of guidance counselors, social workers, nurses and principal to look at schoolwide data trends of attendance and behavior and to discuss specific needs of students and families
Help support leadership planning with the transition for incoming 6th graders and outgoing 8th graders to high school
Management and Operations
Maintain a high degree of visibility during the school day to ensure a safe, orderly, and supportive learning environment
Develop a schedule of teacher/staff duties (before and after school halls, bus, lunch, etc.)
Assign and supervise all teacher/staff duties to ensure a safe and orderly school environment
Work with the building maintenance team to ensure classroom and school needs are met in a timely manner
Other Responsibilities
Serve as a member of District Administrative Council
Attend School Committee meetings as required by the Superintendent/Principal
Complete special duties assigned by the Superintendent or Principal in a timely manner
Assist in assessing professional development needs and planning for faculty meetings and early release days
Performs other related tasks as assigned.
