The Building Codes Inspector I, II, & III position is responsible for performing building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing inspections to verify compliance with approved construction documents, adopted codes, and ordinances of the Town, to safeguard public health, safety and general welfare.
The work schedule is business hours with occasional evenings and weekends. The starting annual salary range is $61,382.76-$73,075.78 (Grades I,K,L).
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS
Works under general guidance to support departmental objectives and priorities.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Successfully trained Building Inspectors will be assigned higher level functions based upon experience and certification obtained.
1.Performs multi-trade inspections on residential and non-residential installations as required by the North Carolina State Building Codes in the areas of Building, Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing trades.
2.Review and approve or disapprove small field revisions and construction documents to be compliant with the NC State Building Codes.
3.Prepare and report notifications of defects or approval of inspections completed.
4.Provides technical assistance and explains and interprets codes, ordinances, and regulations for design professionals, contractors, owners and the general public within the Town and ETJ.
5.Represents the Department at public meetings and Court proceedings, as assigned.
6.Attends regular department meetings to stay informed about interdepartmental updates and inspector workloads.
7.Provides internal customer service assisting with support and coverage as needed of other positions in the Department.
8.Aids in training of new staff members as assigned.
9.Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
