At Holland Sharpe, your day starts where the skyline begins. As a Structural Steel Erection Specialist, you’ll arrive on an active industrial site, review the day’s plan with the crew, confirm rigging and lift paths with the crane operator, and then guide massive beams into place with precision. By afternoon, you’re aligning columns to spec, verifying bolt-ups, and coordinating with welders to lock in connections. You finish the day with a safety huddle, tools squared away, and another section of structure standing tall.
What you’ll tackle
- Erect, position, and install structural steel systems: beams, columns, supports, and related components
- Make solid connections using bolts, fasteners, and welding methods as required by the project
- Read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, layouts, and project specifications
- Perform accurate layout, measuring, positioning, and alignment of all structural members
- Assist with rigging, signaling, hoisting, and precise placement of heavy materials
- Operate and maintain hand tools and power tools, including impact wrenches, grinders, and torches
- Install platforms, stairs, handrails, and other steel assemblies
- Work safely from ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, and elevated structures
- Coordinate closely with crane operators, riggers, welders, and other trades
- Follow all required fall protection, PPE, and jobsite safety procedures
What you bring
- Proven Ironworker or structural steel erection experience
- Comfort working at heights and outdoors in an industrial construction environment
- Reliability, strong safety mindset, and the ability to perform as part of a field crew
