What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Supervisor position at Holladay Lions Recreation Center?
Under the supervision of the Recreation Program Coordinator, the Summer Camp Supervisor works to organize, coordinate, implement, and supervise day camp activities for youth ages 5 - 12 years old. Other duties may be assigned and required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work under the supervision of the Recreation Program Coordinator
- Supervise camp counselors and participants
- Provide leadership and direction with staff and participants
- Assist in organizing, implementing, and monitoring daily activities such as games, special events, physical fitness, arts and crafts, team building, outdoor skills, etc.
- Assist the Program Coordinator in the maintenance of a variety of records and forms such as permission slips, incident forms, and attendance records, daily check-in and check-out of camp participants
- Perform a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering and making phone calls, taking care of equipment, and cleaning.
- Respond to public inquiries or comments such as questions and/or complaints
- Respond to and take care of circumstances requiring first aid
- Issue written and oral instructions
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used at Day Camp program
- Skilled in supervision of employees, volunteers, and participants
- First Aid/CPR/AED certified, or the ability to obtain certification
- Skilled in verbal and written communication to deal positively and effectively with the public
- Leadership abilities
- Ability to have genuine concern for the well-being and development of young children
- Abide by and enforce rules, policies, and procedures
- Self-motivated with the initiative to carry out work assignments in a timely manner
- Effectively enforce safety and health regulations relating to Day Camp programs
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, participants, instructors, and the general public
- Maintain calm in emergency situations
- Ability to create and follow a lesson plan, and make adjustments whenever necessary
- Ability to accurately account for camp participants, guests, and staff with respect
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduated from High School or GED equivalent; pursuing a degree in related field.
- At least 1 - 3 years of experience working with children, coordinating and developing recreation activities in a camp/after-school setting
