Role: Healthcare Solution Architect
Location: Reston, VA
Work Model: Hybrid—onsite once weekly
Contract: 12 months, possible contract-to-hire

Note: Nonlocal candidates must travel to Reston, Virginia, for monthly meetings at their own expense. Quarterly PI Planning requires approximately two onsite days.
Position Summary
The Healthcare Solution Architect will translate enterprise architecture strategy into executable end-to-end solutions for application architecture and development teams.
This position requires a genuine Solution Architect with repeated, long-term ownership of complete architecture initiatives. Software Engineers, Development Leads and Application Architects without substantial end-to-end solution architecture experience will not be considered.
Responsibilities
- Translate business strategies and enterprise architecture into technical solutions.
- Develop current-state, future-state and transitional architecture models.
- Produce complete high-level architecture and solution-design documentation.
- Design solutions covering applications, APIs, databases, cloud, security and user interfaces.
- Ensure designs align with approved enterprise technologies, principles and patterns.
- Connect business requirements with technical architecture decisions.
- Create reusable architecture patterns, standards and guidelines.
- Collaborate with enterprise, domain, application and security architects.
- Guide development teams through solution implementation.
- Present and defend architecture decisions before executives and review boards.
- Identify architectural risks, constraints, integration issues and compliance requirements.
- Evaluate technologies, products and vendor solutions.
- Contribute to product, project and enterprise technology roadmaps.
- Coach architects and engineers and coordinate cross-domain solutions.
- Provide regular reporting on architectural progress, risks and opportunities.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Eight or more years of Solution Architect experience.
- Repeated, recent and long-term end-to-end solution architecture ownership.
- Healthcare insurance/payer experience.
- Strong experience with claims, enrollment, benefits or membership domains.
- Java and Spring Boot.
- REST APIs, web services and system integrations.
- Angular or comparable UI/UX architecture.
- DB2 databases.
- AWS cloud experience.
- SAFe/Agile delivery frameworks.
- Experience translating business requirements into high-level technical designs.
- Strong business acumen and ability to defend architecture decisions.
- Experience creating architecture roadmaps and design documentation.
- Cross-domain architecture and stakeholder-management experience.
- Excellent executive presentation and communication skills.
- Ability to work onsite according to the required schedule.
- Must be eligible for conversion to permanent employment.
