Summary:
The general manager oversees and is accountable for the operation of the store, ensuring maximum sales and profitability through guest services, merchandising, inventory, expense control, human resources management, and managing operating costs and shrinkage. This role will be instrumental in supporting the pre-opening and successful launch of our new Tampa location.
Duties / Essential Functions:
- Have knowledge of and be able to complete and supervise all duties of a Sales Associate and an Assistant Manager
- Ensure that individual and store sales and productivity goals are met on a consistent basis
- Ensure customer satisfaction and resolve complex customer service issues
- Manage human resources activities within the store, including recruiting, hiring, training and development, and performance management; manage payroll and scheduling activities
- Coordinate and maintain internal and external operational and product training for all staff
- Track employee performance and provide coaching as necessary; utilize and consistently apply disciplinary action guidelines to address performance problems
- Manage all aspects of merchandising within the store; research, analyze and recommend merchandising enhancements (i.e., research the competition, communicate with Marketing staff and implement successful promotions)
- Manage sales, promotional activities and special events
- Manage inventory, including the design and maintenance of shrink controls
- Have knowledge of and supervise all aspects of product receiving
- Maintain knowledge of and be able to supervise the tank filling, tank inspection and compressor maintenance processes (following company sponsored VIP training)
- Maintain and ensure safety and security of location
- Work with managers from other retail locations to implement best practices; travel to other locations as needed to assist in new store openings, remerchandising and other tasks as assigned by company President
- Perform routine financial analysis; report results and expenditures; project future sales, expenses and profitability; and maintain financial records
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures and practices and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state & association standards
- Other tasks as assigned by the company President or designee
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred
- Five (5) years retail sales or related experience including at least two (2) at the supervisory or managerial level
- Certified Scuba Diver; Dive Instructor highly desirable
- A combination of education, certifications, and work experience may be qualifying
- Proficient in computer technology
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills; must possess strong visual and conceptual merchandising abilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be willing and able to work in a collaborative setting with a diverse group of internal and external customers and vendors
- Must be available to travel to and assist at other stores as needed
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule as dictated by retail needs
Physical Requirements:
- Position requires employee to work on his/her feet 80-100% of the time
- Ability to bend and squat
- Ability to lift/carry 40 pounds on a regular basis
- Ability to climb ladders
- Ability to access all areas of the store
- Ability to read, count, write, sort, calculate, and analyze
