REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the design of structural concrete and steel systems across a variety of projects, ensuring all work meets project specifications and applicable design codes. This role includes preparing technical sketches for drafting, reviewing shop and construction drawings, and coordinating with vendors, external engineers, and clients as needed. The position also involves performing required calculations and ensuring all structural design packages align with client requirements and industry standards.
Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop economical and effective structural designs.
Prepare design calculations and sketches to support shop and construction drawings produced by the drafting department.
Review and check shop and construction drawings after completion.
Assist the Sales team with pre-bid design and layout support.
Coordinate design efforts with the Engineering Manager and collaborate with Project Managers to ensure proper implementation.
Review geotechnical reports and soil conditions for specific project sites, as needed.
Conduct site inspections of silos, chimneys, stacks, buildings, and other structures; prepare reports with findings and recommendations.
Travel on a limited basis for meetings and project-related responsibilities.
Qualifications
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Ability to develop layouts and design drawings for client presentations.
Familiarity with Risa-3D, Autodesk, SolidWorks. Or familiar software.
Familiar with necessary codes, including but not limited to: ASCE, ACI 318, and AISC.
Hands-on experience with various construction methods and materials preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK CONDITIONS:
Primarily a desk-based role.
Limited exposure to industrial environments based on project needs.
Willingness to travel, including overnight stays, as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil/ Structural Engineering or related field.
Minimum of four years of experience in structural steel and/or concrete design.
