POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a knowledgeable and field-driven Environmental Compliance Manager to lead environmental compliance efforts across multiple active construction projects. This role will focus heavily on SWPPP implementation and inspections, environmental permitting, and ensuring compliance with all applicable EPA, DEQ, and stormwater regulations. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working both in the field and with regulatory agencies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
SWPPP Implementation & Inspections
- Develop, implement, and maintain Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs)
- Conduct routine, weekly, and post-rainfall SWPPP inspections
- Verify proper installation and maintenance of erosion and sediment control BMPs
- Document findings and track corrective actions to closure
Environmental Permitting
- Manage and maintain compliance with all required environmental permits, including NPDES/stormwater permits
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies and ensure permit conditions are fully understood and followed
- Support project teams during pre-construction environmental planning
Site Audits & Compliance Oversight
- Perform regular site audits to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations
- Identify compliance gaps and implement corrective measures in coordination with field leadership
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with environmental requirements
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and complete environmental records, including inspection reports, permits, corrective actions, and training documentation
- Prepare reports for internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies
- Support documentation and response efforts for environmental incidents (e.g., spills, releases)
Training & Field Support
- Provide guidance and training to superintendents, foremen, and crews on environmental requirements and best practices
- Promote a proactive, compliance-focused culture across all job sites
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3 years of environmental compliance experience in heavy civil, underground utilities, or utility-scale solar construction
- Strong working knowledge of:
- SWPPP implementation and inspection requirements
- EPA, DEQ, and stormwater regulations
- Erosion and sediment control practices and BMPs
- Experience with environmental permitting and regulatory coordination
- Proven ability to conduct site audits and enforce compliance in active construction environments
- Strong organizational skills with an emphasis on documentation and recordkeeping
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Preferred Certifications (or ability to obtain):
- CPESC (Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control)
- CESSWI (Certified Erosion, Sediment, and Stormwater Inspector)
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly to job sites (including remote locations)
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work in field conditions
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support construction schedules
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
- Annual Salary: $95,000 - $135,000 based on experience
