Summer Inter- WFD Office Assistant
Salary: $12.00-$13.00 plus free room and 50% off cafeteria
I. Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Workforce Development Administrator, the Workforce Development Office Assistant / Communications Intern supports daily office operations and student outreach initiatives.
This role provides hands-on experience in administrative support, customer service, and student communications. The intern will assist with office tasks, maintain accurate records, and engage with prospective and current students through various communication channels while representing the department in a professional manner.
II. Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide general office support, including filing, copying, scanning, faxing, and processing incoming and outgoing mail.
• Perform data entry using Microsoft Excel and Word, ensuring accuracy and organization of records.
• Answer incoming phone calls, take messages, and direct inquiries appropriately.
• Greet and assist customers, students, and visitors in a professional and welcoming manner.
• Conduct outbound calls and communications to prospective and current students.
• Utilize application status reports to identify and prioritize student outreach efforts.
• Document all interactions and update student records accurately in designated systems.
• Escalate complex or sensitive inquiries to full-time staff as needed.
• Assist with basic reporting on outreach outcomes and engagement metrics.
• Support various office and departmental projects as assigned.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all communications and tasks.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Workforce Development Office Manager.
III. Qualifications – Education, Experience, and Skills
• Must be currently enrolled as a Hocking College student for the Fall semester.
• Must be a second year student.
• Must meet federal requirements for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
• Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Basic math, communication, and public relations skills.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain continuity of departmental operations.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment (copier, fax machine, calculator).
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Strong interpersonal and human relations skills, including teamwork, conflict resolution, and professionalism.
• Demonstrated ethical behavior, including honesty, responsibility, and sound decision-making.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple responsibilities.
