What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting - Summer Intern (PRN) position at HIGHLAND DISTRICT HOSPITAL?
Assists in achieving the goals of the Accounting Department for HDH and all related entities including HDH Foundation, Professional Services Corporation, Highland Joint Township District Hospital Foundation. Assists with monthly close activities, account reconciliations, and financial analysis while gaining exposure to healthcare accounting processes.
Level of responsibility and complexity of work will be adjusted based on education and experience.
- Assists in preparation of monthly journal entries including related statistics and analytical schedules.
- Assists in preparation of general ledger account reconciliations and researching variances.
- Reviews corporate credit card statements for completeness and compliance with policies.
- Assists in preparation and processing of non-patient accounts receivable cash deposits.
- Provides support for preparation of annual budgets.
- Communicates with department managers, as directed, to support accurate expense coding.
- Supports accounts payable processes, including invoice review and data entry, as needed.
- Participates in special projects, audits, and financial analysis, as assigned.
- Protects confidentiality and privacy, including but not limited to, HIPAA policies, proprietary and financial information.

High school diploma or currently enrolled in high school with an interest in an Accounting and/or Finance career. Current enrollment in or completion of coursework in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred. Must have basic math and analytical skills, strong attention to detail, written and oral communication skills. Proficiency with Excel and Word.
May be subject to irregular hours and frequent interruptions. Work tends to be sedentary. The position requires the successful completion of a
medical examination after an offer of hire has been made. The position requires the employee to be free of all unlawful substances and alcohol.
