Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Supervisor of Coding oversees the revenue cycle coding workflow and supports a high level of coding accuracy and efficiency.
  • He/she manages vendor inventories, coding Discharge Not Billed (DNB) to department targets, and accuracy audits.
  • Builds relationships across functional areas to address documentation issues, redesign processes, improve efficiency, and ensure optimal results.
  • Supports the Coding Manager with staffing and performance management and training of Coders.
  • Provides timely feedback to all questions from Revenue Cycle, Coders and all Departments regarding all with accounts.
  • Monitors changes in laws, regulations, and coding & documentation standards.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert regarding coding and specifically ED and Observation charge capture.
  • Abides by the standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by American Health Information Management Association and adheres to official coding guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma.
  • Completion of a certified coding program or graduate of a CAHIM accredited HIT program required.
  • Five years’ coding experience in an acute care hospital setting.
  • Two years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in computer assisted coding preferred.

  • Certified Outpatient Coder (COC)
  • Certified Coding Specialist Physician-Based (CCS-P)
